Zebedee expands partnership with Viper to provide Bitcoin rewards for Solitaire and Sudoku

Quick take:

  • Players can earn Bitcoin by playing Solitaire, Sudoku and Missing Letters.
  • Zebedee and Viker have previously launched three Bitcoin-powered games.
  • Zebedee’s gaming wallet is built on Bitcoin’s Lightning Network.

Bitcoin gaming infrastructure provider Zebedee has teamed up with London-based mobile game studio Viker to bring Bitcoin rewards to classic games.

Players of classic games such as Solitaire and Sudoku, as well as Missing Letters, a Wordle-like game, can now earn Bitcoin while playing the games. No prior knowledge of Bitcoin or crypto wallets is required for players to start earning rewards.

To view and withdraw the earned crypto, users can simply enter their Gamertag (a profile username in the Zebedee ecosystem) and select moves for the coins to appear in the Zebedee app. Players can then withdraw the coins or spend them through Zebedee’s virtual economy.

Zebedee’s gaming wallet is built on Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, a Layer-2 solution that increases the speed and reduces the cost of Bitcoin transactions.

“There is no better way to introduce next-generation Play-and-Earn mechanics to a broad gaming audience than to take the games people already know and love and update them with Bitcoin, seamlessly and discreetly,” said Simon Cowell, CEO of ZEBEDEE. “We’ve seen this work with a wide range of games on our platform, but this new series of integrations is even more significant, as these titles basically haven’t seen any meaningful innovation in years.”

This is an extension of Zebedeus and Viker’s long-term partnership. Both companies have previously released three Bitcoin-based play-and-earn games such as Wheel of Trivia, Wheel of Crypto and Balls King to bring Bitcoin rewards to the masses.

Viker’s co-founder Dan Beasly told Decrypt that the game studio has 500,000 players who earn Bitcoins from their games every month.

“With over a third of the world’s population identifying as a gamer – whether behind the controller, keyboard or phone – there’s no end in sight to how much longer this innovative partnership has left to run,” Cowell said.

The announcement of this expanded partnership comes after Zebedee raised $35 million to bring Bitcoin rewards to gaming. The funding round was led by Kingsway Capital and backed by Japanese video game conglomerate Square Enix, among others.

In May, Zebedee integrated MoonPay’s services to allow Zebedee users to buy Bitcoin with a credit/debit card, and for players who earn Bitcoin from games to exchange crypto for fiat. Currently, the service is only available to US users, with support for more countries and currencies to be added in the future.
