With DeGods and y00ts ready to leave Solana, the NFT creator jumps in to answer the “why”
- Rohun Vora aka Frank III explains why his NFT projects are leaving Solana in 2023
- The decision was taken to support the growth of both NFT projects
DeGod’s and y00t’s departure from Solana [SOL] blockchain has been the talk of the NFT community ever since news come out. These NFT projects are arguably the most important in the Solana ecosystem. In addition, losses on these projects can be considered a significant blow to Solana.
DeGod’s bail against Solana
Rohun Vora, creator of DeGods and y00ts, hosted one Twitter space session where he addressed the migration of his projects to Ethereum [ETH] and polygon [MATIC]. The Spaces session was attended by Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal.
Vora, who goes by the alias Frank III (@frankdegods) on Twitter, stated that the decision to migrate chains was made to “explore new opportunities.” According to Vora, the core reason for this move is to promote the growth and development of both NFT projects.
DeGods will be connected to Ethereum and y00ts to Polygon in the first quarter of 2023.
“It’s hard to accept, but it’s been tough to grow at the rate we want to grow. If Ethereum is where we need to go to continue to grow, that’s what we need to do.” he added.
Vora revealed that he had a pretty bullish attitude when it came to Polygon. The many partnerships that the Ethereum scaling solution secured in 2022 were part of the reason he advocated for his NFT’s changing base. Polygon also managed to tie up with popular names like Disney, Nike and Reddit for NFT ventures.
For holders concerned about the migration of their NFTs to another blockchain, Vora clarified that it will be optional and NFT owners can choose to opt out of the bridge.
Funding from Polygon to encourage migration
Earlier this month, users on Twitter reported that DeGods demanded $5 million from the Solana Foundation to stay on board. A representative from Solana recently confirmed this.
Furthermore, Vora also confirmed that y00ts accepted a grant from Polygon’s partnership fund for the migration. According to him, the grant was not paid out in a lump sum and will last between one and two years.
Users on Twitter too pointed out the stark difference in affordability of DeGod’s NFTs between Ethereum and Solana wallets. Apparently only 5670 Solana wallets had enough to buy a DeGods NFT. The number stood to be much higher in the case of Ethereum, with over 118,000 wallets having enough to buy NFT.
