Why Meta will expand NFT support to over 100 countries
Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the expansion of their non-fungible token (NFT) features for Instagram. Deployed on May 10, 2022, this enables users to showcase their digital collectibles on social media.
The feature will be available in over 100 countries for users in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. This will allow content creators to “leverage new monetization tools” and connect with their followers in an innovative way, according to an official update.
The Zuckerberg-led company also announced that it will support connections with Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet and integration with the Flow blockchain. The latter celebrated the announcement via their official Twitter handle.
The team behind the Flow blockchain so:
Our partnership with Instagram is starting to roll out, which means select users can now connect to their Dapper wallet and showcase their favorite NFTs directly on their account! Access will be rolled out throughout the month, so get ready for Flow On Instagram. We’re excited to give everyone a new way to share parts of who they are on Instagram. This partnership reflects how much Flow has resonated with developers, creators and users by providing the right foundation to support NFT adoption at consumer scale
The NFT feature was already compatible with MetaMask, Trust Wallet and other crypto wallet providers. Thus, users can connect to Ethereum, the most widely used blockchain in terms of NFTs, and its second-tier scalability solution Polygon and now the Flow blockchain for free.
The company said the following about the process that will allow users to share NFT-based items with their followers:
To post a digital collectible, all you need to do is connect your digital wallet to Instagram. Starting today, we support connections with third-party wallets including Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and the coming soon Dapper Wallet.
NFT collectibles will change the social media experience?
The NFT feature on Instagram will allow content creators to tag other users and automatically give them credit for collaboration. Digital assets on the platform will have distinct properties, such as a shimmer effect with the ability to display additional information, as shown in the image below.
In addition to Ethereum, Polygon and Flow, the features will be integrated with Solana-based NFTs in the coming months. Meta is also working on adding new wallets with the Phantom wallet next in line for future integration.
The Zuckerberg-led company added the following about its efforts to give users access to the crypto space:
It is crucial that our early efforts in this area empower diverse voices and that underrepresented groups have access to new digital assets such as NFTs. By building support for NFTs, we aim to improve accessibility, lower barriers to entry and help make the NFT space more inclusive for all communities.
