Storytelling NFTs are the latest trending ‘meta’ in the industry Twitter community. The last day it seems like it’s all people are talking about. With hundreds of tweets simply reading: “Storytelling NFTs.” without any other context. Many see them as a way to incorporate storytelling into web3, with community members writing, voting and contributing to stories.
Storytelling NFTs allow community members to become involved in a new collection in a way they have never been able to before. Now they can write the story or the narrative behind a NFT collection, many of which have the opportunity to be published works, if it is a success.
Bored and Dangerous was started by Jenkins the Valet. The collection fits into the storytelling genre and was created thanks to the work of 3000 members of ‘The Writers’ Room’ who drive the creative direction of the work. In addition to this, a novel was written by Neil Strauss, a 10-time New York Times bestseller. The characters featured in the novel, the illustrations and the ‘Where’s Jenkins’ game – all created by the collection – are owned by members of the community. Currently, the OpenSea floor price is at 0.51 ETH, an impressive feat in the current bear market.
Similarly, Azurbala is a related collection. Bored & Dangerous holders can burn their NFTs in exchange for an Azur root (a sacred item in Azurbala that can be redeemed for a PFP NFT). Azurbala, compared to the Bored & Dangerous collection, is much more fantasy based. They call themselves the “Jungle capital on the other side of the metaverse”. Each faction (including House Calypso, The Sprawls, and more) that make up Azurbala has its own dedicated experience on the site. For example, you can learn about their leaders, what the faction is known for, you can hear their native sounds and much more.
The clean is a completely different NFT collection. Started by Dirty Robot Works, it’s a handcrafted collection of 10,000 characters. Each with its own identity to be discovered in the wider stories of RENGA. In its purest form, as their OpenSea reads: “RENGA is the art of telling.” Currently, the floor price is 1.39 ETH, a huge, impressive number. The collection is inspired by community, art and imagination.
Overall, the ambition of these projects and their communities is clear. As a result, Storytelling NFTs, if built correctly, can become a large part of the NFT space. Until now, there has been no real way to produce stories in the web3 space. But this may well be the answer.
It is also clear that many are excited to see what will happen in the niche area. In particular, just in the last day, thousands of people have tweeted positively about them.
