‘We Are All Going to Die’ beats Bored Apes to become # 1 NFT project

In the midst of the ongoing crypto-decline, increasingly strange and independent NFT ecosystems that are proud to have no use have shot up in popularity. It has been Goblintown (whose holders played like piss-loving goblins), I pee it (NFTs of smelly turds), its affiliate project Shit Beast (NFTs of creatures covered in shit), and now it’s We Are All Going to Die, which surpassed the Bored Ape Yacht Club and became the most popular NFT collection at OpenSea on Tuesday .

We are all going to die is a collection of 6666 NFTs that have pixelated solemn humanoids dressed in medieval fantasy equipment, ranging from magical death masks to swords, cloaks, wings, crossbows, chain mail, armor, crowns and metal helmets. Launched on June 3, 3,100 owners of the collection have already seen a trading volume of 9,000 ETH ($ 16,200,000) with a minimum price of around 1.76 ETH ($ 3,168).

“𝔚𝔢𝔟𝔰𝔦𝔱𝔢 𝔚𝔢𝔟𝔰𝔦𝔱𝔢. 𝔗𝔴𝔦𝔱𝔱𝔢𝔯 𝔞𝔫𝔡 ℭ𝔬𝔫𝔱𝔯𝔞𝔠𝔱 𝔒𝔫𝔩𝔶. 𝔉𝔯𝔢𝔢 𝔐𝔦𝔫𝔱. ℭℭ0,” the project description on OpenSea reads. “𝔦𝔰 𝔦𝔰 𝔫𝔬 𝔪𝔞𝔭, 𝔬𝔫𝔩𝔶 𝔡𝔢𝔞𝔱h. 𝔡𝝔𝔢𝔦.

As of Wednesday morning, We Are All Going to Die was still the best Ethereum-based NFT project on OpenSea, beating out the # 1 ranking of the Solana-based Just Ape project, which announces going “back to basics” . In fact, almost all of the top NFTs on OpenSea at the moment are trollish collections that advertise without uses besides JPEGs, with the Bored Ape Yacht Club and its affiliate collections coming in at # 9, 10 and 11.

Although We Are All Going to Die is proud barebones, a world of lore has sprung from it. Visiting the project’s Twitter gives us a cryptic lore video which suggests that these NFTs are the start of an ecosystem. To start the whole project and loren, its creator brent one Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT they had bought for 21 ETH (about $ 37,800).

“Her light has appeared by consuming the power of a creature from beyond. The rights of the primate are now spread over the ether. And then the church gates have opened,” says a disembodied voice in the video. “Her light has lit up the world, and her followers celebrate, but this is only a stage in the cycle. Her gifts have no reason or logic – only idiots seek her blessing. And do not forget, the cycle this time will eventually pass, and the next cycle will begin. “

The video goes on to talk about the nameless Sperent, corruption, an evolutionary cycle for the “troubled souls of this world”, and a promise that death is the only constant. “Find a covenant, a lost soul. But remember that there is only one constant: We are all going to die.” Freezes the video near the end still images of NFT art which can get in an air drop, suggesting that there will be more fake Soulsborne lore videos to get hints about the next steps from.

In the meantime, owners have taken on role-playing games as their NFTs and concretized the lore of this world.

“THE HATE OF THE FATE OF THE HORRIBLE JUDGMENT, THE NEWLY CROWNING KING ALTERPATH OF THE AZURE HEAVEN SEEKS A DESTROYED VENGEANCE AGAINST THE SRPENTINE FIGURINE THAT THREATENS THE FUTURE OF HIS PEOPLE,” it says. and tweet with a woman dressed in golden armor and a crown adorned with seven golden fingers. “HE CARRIES HIS FATHER’S GLORY AND MOTHER’S HONOR IN WAR.”

The role play does not end there. It is a codex document various NFTs, a fandom wiki for the lore of the collection has appeared, and an unofficial Discord as well. You can read about Great shell bonfire, which refers to knowledge of why some of the NFTs are skeletons whose flesh has been melted off. You can learn about Creation myth in incredibly difficult to read red gothic text.

At some level, this type of development makes sense. Previous iterations of NFTs have been notoriously useless, with their only tools centered around exclusive social clubs. The creation of an expanded universe where individuals can role-play as JPEG, as well as acquire more NFTs to change properties or value, is also not entirely new – this is reminiscent of core mechanics in NFT games that can be played to make money as Axie Infinity.

What is new, however, is that they embrace this ecosystem model even more than before, and do away with the complex roadmaps and “metavers” promises that have characterized the previous wave of NFTs, and only characterize JPEGs, often for free.

It seems that there is no point in doing a lot of things after the crash. Instead of “we must all do it“The new mantra seems to be ‘We’re all going to die,’ so why not role-play like a piss-pixie or a skeleton in armor?

Correction: An earlier version of this story listed Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT’s value of 0.15 ETH, which was the last offer made at NFT. However, it was last sold for 21 ETH. We apologize for the inconvenience.
