Upcoming Drops: October 10-16
Let’s face it: the NFT space is moving very quickly. Considering how quickly things can change in the metaverse, a week in NFT might as well be a month IRL.
Don’t get us wrong – the more people on board the space, the better. But with the constant influx of great art and ideas, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with all the news, launches, and general happenings.
Well, you can put the days of endless Twitter and Discord scrolling behind you as we put together a weekly list of upcoming NFT drops you definitely don’t want to miss. Here’s what to look for this week.
SlyCrocs x DraftKings
WHO: SupDucks x DraftKings
What: 2500 sly hook PFP NFTs
When: October 11, time TBA
Where: DraftKings
Why: The first ever PFP release on the DraftKings Marketplace is here: SlyCrocs. Made of Franky Nines, these Crocs “migrated from the Florida depths and appeared on the LA boardwalk.” Owning a SlyCroc will unlock chances to win DraftKings Dollars, free DraftKings Reignmaker packs, as well as entries into rolling contests and contests hosted by DraftKings. With SupDucks and DraftKings’ partnership, the famous sports betting and fantasy sports website has dipped its toes further into Web3.
Elements of the self
What: Four one-by-one 3D animated NFTs
When: 11 October at 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: MakersPlace
Why: Fans of artist William Willoughby III and his mix of surreal and futuristic themes with high level 3D art are in for a treat this Halloween season. Elements of Self is a collection of animated skulls that vividly depict common inner conflicts that we experience during this journey we call life.
Amazonia
WHO: Sebastião Salgado
What: A one-of-a-kind movie NFT and 5,000 unique photo NFTs
When: 12 October at 5 a.m. ET
Where: Sotheby’s
Why: The Amazônia collection marks the culmination of a decade of photographer Salgado’s work. Containing 5,000 unique photo NFTs depicting the photographer’s travels through the Amazon, the sheer volume of work Salgado created over the past decade necessitated a five-month curation period. In keeping with Salgado’s strong support for environmentalism, this collection will proudly call the newly merged Ethereum blockchain home when it launches later this week.
Venus beach
WHO: Paul Kurucz
What: Collection mechanics TBA
When: 12 October at 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: MakersPlace
Why: Multimedia artist Pol Kurucz is set to make yet another addition to his growing portfolio of works with his unique high-camp aesthetic. Venus Beach, his originator at MakersPlace, depicts scenes of real-life models thriving in alien, alien worlds.
Jackie Rex
WHO: Sarah Zucker
What: Three multi-edition VideoPainting triptychs
When: 12 October at 6:30 p.m. ET
Where: Nice gateway
Why: In an effort to communicate divine thematic content with her distinct visual style, Sarah Zucker has created Jackie Rex. The series of multi-issue VideoPainting NFTs bear Zucker’s signature flair – reminiscent of Ringo Starr’s work with MS Paint from the early 2000s. To achieve this unique look, Zucker used a vintage Sony video template and a combination of digital and analog processing to further age the images.
Floating fragments
WHO: San Holo
What: A generative NFT vinyl collection
When: October 15, time TBA
Where: sound.xyz
Why: With San Holo’s next release, one of electronic music’s biggest names will further strengthen the bond between the visual and sonic realms of NFTs. Each floating fragment, which contains bits of music (and is a piece of generative art in its own right), is set to enable holders to claim physical collectibles for this digital release. Should a holder assemble a full San Holo track with their fragments, they will be eligible to redeem a limited edition San Holo X SoundMint vinyl.
