Crypto Bunda, an upcoming NFT project, has been suspended by Twitter for what the social media giant calls “Adult Content,” according to its profile banner. The account behind the project, called ‘CryptoBunda’, was given the formal notice yesterday and it is unclear if they will get the account back in the future. The project, a collection of 6,000 cartoon bums, is launching soon, so this is a huge blow. Social media is a huge component of the success of an NFT gathering, and Twitter suspending them can cause serious problems.
Crypto Bunda is a collection of 6,000 digital cartoon bums on the Ethereum blockchain, created by ‘Fire in the Spoof’ animators. In particular, Fire in the Spoof is a collective of talented illustrators, animators and lyrical artists from the UK who create parody videos on YouTube.
The Crypto Bunda NFT project aims to celebrate women’s bodies. In fact, they believe they are being treated unfairly by Twitter.
In an exclusive statement to NFTevening, Lara, project manager at Crypto Bunda, said, “I’m in complete shock that in today’s world where people, especially women, are constantly fighting for their rights and yet we continue to be shut down over and over again. This art doesn’t break anything. It’s a collection of cartoon bums that the team had fun to make. It’s about celebrating the female body and simply having fun with digital art. Where’s the crime or the need for censorship? If we’re being stopped from sharing our art, then something is seriously wrong!”
The Crypto Bunda team received official notification of the suspension on Thursday, September 29. Twitter suspended the account for “violation of Twitter rules, specifically for PROFILEHEADER”.
The picture above of cartoon bums is hardly explicit and far from the worst thing on Twitter. Oddly enough, this is what caused the suspension of the account.
Unfortunately, there are some truly terrible things on Twitter, and a lot of adult content is freely available. As for NFTs, there are also many hackers and scammers on the platform. These accounts manage to avoid suspension and avoid bans.
Lara also says, “The inspiration came mainly from women who twerk in music videos, like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, and it’s a serious red flag if we can’t share art based on music culture. What if they banned these music videos?”
The Crypto Bunda team has told us that they will fight the suspension and have already started an appeal. Furthermore, the team has worked non-stop on the project.
Currently they are also working on a Crypto Bunda clothing line and in the future the team would like to work with domestic violence and mental health charities.
Finally, it will be interesting to see if Crypto Bunda will regain access to their Twitter account. For many, this will serve as an example of the power of social media and Twitter’s control over it.
