Twitter adds NFT Tweet tiles

Twitter users can now see extended NFT links.

ONE chirping from the Twitter Dev account revealed today that the site will pilot a feature called Tweet Tiles to enhance links to certain non-fungible token marketplaces.

The new feature allows users to include a link to an NFT on an external website. The link automatically expands to display a full-size image of the NFT, plus metadata and a link to its respective marketplace location.

Marketplaces supported during the trial period include Rarible, Magic Eden, Dapper Labs, and Jump.trade.

Of these marketplaces, Rarible is the most significant, with $432,000 NFTs traded in the past week. Rarible recognized the feature, write it Tweet Tiles will allow users to “experience NFTs in a whole new way.”

Magic Eden also mentioned the feature, writing: “Love TweetTile…some might even say it’s fire.” jump.trade, finallycalled the feature “a lovely and welcome boost for NFTs [and] an important milestone for web3.”

In August, Twitter tested the Tweet Tiles feature with three news publications: the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and The Guardian. At the time, the feature was used to expand news articles, not NFT-related posts.

Twitter’s developer account said the newly added feature is “one more step in our journey to allow developers to influence the Tweet experience.”

The company has gradually added support for NFTs over the past year. In June 2021, it released a set of free NFTs. In January, it added support for NFTs in profile pictures.

Twitter also integrates cryptocurrency. In September 2021, the site introduced crypto tipping, and this week rumors surfaced that it is building a crypto wallet.

Elon Musk also bought Twitter today, although it’s unclear if he intends to follow through on his earliest crypto plans like Dogecoin integration and micropayments.

Disclosure: At the time of writing, the author of this piece owned BTC, ETH and other digital assets.
