Turkish youth are counting the days for the 1st Blockchain Hackathon
The Turkish Presidency Office of Digital Transformation is organizing this year for the first time a blockchain competition, the Digital Türkiye Blockchain Hackathon, called DIGIATHON 2022, to stimulate interest in such technologies, especially among youth.
The applications, which require, among other things, to be a citizen of the country, were started on 26 September and the process will continue until 14 October.
The main purpose of the competition is to test the participants’ ability to develop Digital Türkiye services with blockchain infrastructure. In addition, the Hackathon, also known as a code party, is a social coding event that brings together computer programmers and technology enthusiasts, aimed at attracting all citizens interested in technology, especially youth, and stimulating interest in blockchain, as the office sees. “as one of the technologies of the future.”
Ali Taha Koç, commenting on DIGIATHON 2022, said as the Digital Transformation Office, they have a mission that has been carried out with the presidential decree and “it is to lead the digital transformation of the public.”
“Digital transformation is an ever-evolving process and it is important to follow current developments closely and determine an active strategy in innovative technologies,” he told Daily Sabah.
“We also follow innovative technologies closely and organize supporting projects to create qualified human resources in these areas. Recently, we have focused on awareness-raising initiatives on blockchain, which we see as one of the technologies of the future,” he said. .
During the competition, participants who will apply from universities or companies throughout Türkiye will form teams consisting of a minimum of two and a maximum of four people and demonstrate their competence for services that are used and can be used in real life.
The development will be done on the Avalanche testnet, which will be set up at the Digital Transformation Office.
The competition will be held in two stages – preliminary and final. The pre-selection phase will be held online through multiple choice questions and reviewed by the assessment committee. A total of 20 teams that succeed in the pre-selection will be invited to the final stage which will be held in Istanbul in November.
Koç, meanwhile, went on to say that there is still much to learn and discover about blockchain.
With the Digital Turkey Blockchain Hackathon, he said, they are inviting technology enthusiasts in the public and universities to develop innovative solutions for e-Devlet, Turkey’s online portal for public services.
Koç emphasized that one of the most important elements of this project is the creation of a test network to be opened in the Digital Transformation Office.
“DIGIATHON 2022 competitors will first have the chance to use this test grid, which will be established using Avalanche technology, and then, once the necessary technical studies are completed, we will gradually offer this test grid to all our citizens, especially those the public institutions and universities,” he said.
“All our citizens who want to develop in blockchain and who want to produce projects will be able to benefit from this network for free,” Koç added.
“We aim to achieve good results with this project, which will contribute strongly to the National Technology Move, where we aim to create national and global products.”
