Trio of JP Morgan Execs ends for crypto jobs

Even when crypto companies lose workers and seek bankruptcy protection in a brutal market

In times of recession, leaders from traditional finance still listen to the siren song of Web3.

Former JP Morgan executives Eric Wragge, Puja Samuel and Samir Shah have all left the major financial institution.

“I am delighted to share that I have started with Digital Currency Group as Head of Business Development,” Samuel wrote on LinkedIn yesterday. “I am pleased to help build new strategic partnerships with an energetic team that drives change across the financial system.”

Before joining Digital Currency Group, the parent company of Coindesk and digital currency investment firm Grayscale, Samuel served as head of ideas and digital innovation at JP Morgan.

“I want to thank my former colleagues at JP Morgan for a wonderful and extremely satisfying three years, and also my former colleagues at Citi, Citi Ventures and New York Life Ventures for being a part of my professional journey,” Samuel added.

Eric Wragge, a former CEO of JP Morgan, joined the Web3 world through the Algorand Foundation. According to a post from Algorand, which is developing a cryptocurrency protocol and the ALGO coin, Wragge will chair the foundation’s investment committee and lead global initiatives and strategic partnerships in both traditional capital markets and decentralized finance.

“I come from a leading global investment bank and understand the uncompromising performance requirements of a Layer 1 blockchain to compete against and enhance many aspects of traditional finance,” Wragge said yesterday in the release.

Finally, former JP Morgan banker Samir Shah announced on Monday that he had left the investment bank to become CEO of the Web3 investment company Pantera Capital.

“After 12 fantastic years with JPMorgan, it’s bittersweet for me to share that I want to [be] starts a new professional chapter, “Shah posted on LinkedIn.” I’m excited to share that I will be joining Pantera Capital as Chief Operating Officer. “

Prior to joining Pantera Capital, Shah served as Head of Asset Management and Digital Solutions at JP Morgan. His move was first reported by Coindesk.
