The Philadelphia 76ers’ Third Heritage NFT Drop is live today
The sports industry is among the few sectors that have been experimenting with non-fungible tokens for some time now. The market downturn has spread chaos in related markets, but the crypto sector has started to recover. This means NFT space could also see a potential rally. The Philadelphia 76ers, an American professional basketball team, recently announced that they are dropping the third of their four Heritage NFT collections on March 20, 2023.
Football and basketball are still the most active sports in the NFT sector
According to the official press release, holders of previous collections, Loaded Lions and 76ers Legacy, are already eligible for the release. However, non-qualified users can mint NFT during public access. The 76ers Heritage – Born and Raised collection focused on how they have stepped up their game, a journey to the global stage. Buyers will gain access to VIP experiences and specially designed merchandise through this collection.
The collection also categorizes different series, including the Original Series, The Icon Series, and The Signature Series. All collections guarantee some benefit to the primary buyers, including custom NFT 76ers pennants, hats and more. The Heritage NFT collection is a celebration of Philadelphia’s basketball history that will write its name using blockchain technology.
The Philadelphia 76ers, also known as the Sixers, were founded in 1946 and are among the oldest National Basketball Association (NBA) franchises present in the game today. The team has represented several hall of famers including Billy Cunningham, Allen Iverson, Hal Greer and more. To this date, the team has won three NBA championships.
Football and basketball are still two of the biggest sports that actively seek to attract users from the NFT area. The Golden State Warriors, a San Francisco-based basketball team, announced their 2022 Playoff NFT collection with now-bankrupt FTX. Proceeds according to the announcement went to the Warriors Community Foundation.
Paris Saint-Germain, a French football team, released NFT tickets for its Japan tour in July 2022. The initiative celebrated the team’s return to the country after 27 years. Players including Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Kylian Mbappe and more joined the trip. The tokens enabled access to the VIP room and the party for the holders where they could click pictures with PSG players.
Former Barcelona star Lionel Messi also signed a deal with Sorare, an NFT game, in November 2022. The company’s co-founder told CNBC that the partnership will help step up their game. Also, Leo partnered with Socios, a fantoken company, to become a brand ambassador for the site.
In March 2022, David Beckham announced a partnership with DigitalBit’s blockchain and became a global brand ambassador for the company. Several other sports personalities, including Tom Brady, Shaquille O’Neal and more, have set foot in the blockchain space before. NFT and crypto assets use blockchain as their underlying technology, but the use cases go beyond.
