The luxury hotel chain now accepts Bitcoin and Ethereum as payment in the Maldives and Thailand
With the growing acceptance of cryptocurrencies worldwide, more businesses are beginning to accept digital assets as payment, including the hospitality sector.
Soneva, a leader in the high-end hotel industry, is now accepting Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) at its properties in the Maldives and Thailand, according to a report from Business travelers published August 15.
Guests at Soneva Fushi, Soneva Jani and Soneva i Aqua in the Maldives, as well as Soneva Kiri in Thailand, can now safely make secure international payments using the payment channel, which is meant to simplify the transaction procedure and provide the ultimate peace of mind.
Also, Soneva Villa Ownership is the first and only plan in the Maldives to offer properties to foreign buyers, and both Bitcoin and Ethereum can be used for this, with the necessary security measures and compliance in place.
Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO of Soneva, Bruce Bromley, said:
“At Soneva, we have always strived to be a pioneer in the hospitality industry, so accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method is another example of enabling our international guests to easily make payments from anywhere in the world.”
Soneva wants to make luxury travel more accessible
Together, Soneva and TripleA, a cryptocurrency payment solutions provider, and Pomelo Pay, a payment platform provider, want to make luxury travel more accessible by accepting a wider range of payment methods.
TripleA, a licensed cryptocurrency payment solutions provider, allows Soneva visitors to pay in cryptocurrency without worrying about price fluctuations. This is possible because TripleA provides fast confirmation, locked exchange rates, real-time conversions and no chargebacks.
When combined with Pomelo Pay, a frictionless payment platform, it allows users to make purchases using cryptocurrencies through QR codes and payment links.
Soneva’s reservations team can be contacted directly from anywhere globally to make bookings and set up secure payment channels.
While Bitcoin and Ethereum payments are non-refundable, cancellation fees are refundable under Soneva’s accommodating payment and cancellation policy, which was implemented in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak to provide visitors with more peace of mind when making reservations.
