The 2022 ABGA Blockchain Gaming Summit was a huge success on September 27th
The Blockchain Gaming 2022 Summit, hosted by ABGA (Asia Blockchain Gaming Alliance), took place on September 27 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Singapore. The topic of this conference was “Create a new way of gaming”, presenting new approaches and viewpoints for the development of games in the future.
The conference aims to unleash the potential of the game industry through game technology, strengthen the game field, explore the vast untapped potential of blockchain games and Metaverse, and provide the industry with a platform for sharing game resources and technical exchange. Through joint efforts to build a positive development ecosystem in the Metaverse, the gaming industry of the future will surely skyrocket.
Kevin Shao, CEO of ABGA, made opening remarks, mainly introducing ABGA’s history, current development trends of the blockchain industry and technology ecosystem. He stated that investors who believe in the long-term potential of blockchain will focus on Web3 as a blockchain play during the industry’s current weak market.
In the keynote “Sports and Metaverse: Bringing the world of sports fans together with immersive experiences”, NFTStar CEO Gagan Palrecha said that more than anything else, it’s about building quality games that are underpinned by some really great improvements that Web3 can deliver to players.
Sandy Carter, senior vice president of Unstoppable Domains, shared how digital identity unlocks the potential of blockchain in the keynote address “Digital Identity: Unlock the Power of Blockchain Play.” Sandy said: “Digital identity and Web3 will become the new gateway to the internet, where Web2 companies will begin to pilot Web3 concepts that include digital identity.”
Bybit NFT’s blockchain development manager Jenny Zheng moderated the roundtable discussion on the topic “What can blockchain technology bring to traditional gaming companies?” where Razor blockchain lead Lawrence, Fun Topia CEO Andy Xiang, XLgames business development director Calvin Ryu and XPLA CEO Paul Kim participated in the discussion.
Ariel Widhiyasa, CEO of Mythic Protocol, also provided insight on how to capture the moment in the industry: “To balance the distribution of value (to each group) to ensure sustainability, the role of ‘regulation’ (whether centralized or decentralized) , and how much disruption is too much to intervene with the invisible hand at work.”
Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson shared his views on blockchain gaming opportunities in the keynote address “The Opportunities in Blockchain Gaming.” He believes that user-generated content is the future of all entertainment industries, and gaming is one of them. The Web3 world can redefine the relationship between players and games.
Mark Lee, CFO of Monsta Infinite, said in the keynote “GameFi and Economic Model” that “when you design an economic model for a game, you should note that it’s not about the revenue model, it’s about user acquisition.” Mark added that to be a successful project, it must be self-sustaining.
Klaytn, Avalanche, Polygon, BNB Chain and other public chain giants were invited to participate in the roundtable discussion. The Public Chain is looking to expand hackathons to different regions to get talented game developers to build, supporting projects not only with funds but also on the business and technology side. The future of DApps will be Web2.5, a combination of Web2 and Web3.
YGG co-founder Beryl Li shared the role of the Blockchain Games Association in the industry in the keynote speech “Why Blockchain Games Need Games Guilds.” In 2020, YGG launched the game Axie as well as a scholarship program to provide opportunities for players without funds to participate in the game, and help the local community in the Philippines through the difficult times of the pandemic.
Joshua Galloway, chairman of Candy Club, gave a keynote speech on the topic “How to fight the bears,” saying that “Candy Club is fun, no dramas. Very seamless, just a few minutes to integrate everything, designed for the crypto world.”
Guests from Marblex, Mythic Protocol, Polemos and Savanna Survival participated in the roundtable session on “Blockchain Gaming Ecosystems in Different Countries.” The guests summarized the current development status of blockchain games in different countries. In general, the challenge for games is to be a seamless gaming experience that is safe, easy to onboard, and fun to play, which will come with years of development and education for the game’s players.
The after party, hosted by ABGA and title sponsored by XT.com, was held at Ce La Vi. With more than 1,000 participants, audience and visitors celebrating and speaking freely with high excitement, the summit reached a successful conclusion.
In the future, ABGA will focus on the technological development of the blockchain gaming industry by organizing more events and providing a wider platform for practitioners to enable industry development.
