Gaming giant Square Enix recently announced its partnership with the Oasys Blockchain platform as a node validator. The partnership sheds light on future NFT gaming projects. The gaming community criticized the Japanese game developer’s decision, as they claim that the company will now focus more on their blockchain projects. Users took to Reddit and Twitter, commenting on this move by the gaming giant. However, some supported this decision. Supporters claimed that this move was the next step in the gaming industry, with NFTs providing players with an enhanced gaming experience.
Square Enix takes the final spot as the 21st node validator for Oasys’ PoS network. As a next step, the duo plans to create new NFT game projects with proof-of-work compatible PoS blockchain. This may result in triple-A compatible games being modified with games to gain integrations. Apart from this partnership, Square Enix has also partnered with Sega, Double Jump, Ubisoft and Bandai Namco. It’s worth noting here that Ubisoft was criticized over their NFT project Quartz earlier this year.
According to a tweet from a Twitter user, Square Enix users are upset with their moves to sell most of their western studios, invest in crypto, and no longer be a “fun” priority game company. Users tend to claim this move as self-sabotage. Another report said: “Unlike most video game developers who decided to announce their ventures into the jpeg-filled world of NFTs, Square Enix just doubled down.”
