Square Enix Continues to Push Blockchain and NFTs in 2023
Square Enix will continue to push Blockchain and NFTs as part of its marketing strategy for 2023. Happy days!
Despite backlash from fans, companies like Square Enix, with the assistance of Blockchain and Crypto Bros, are keeping the digital pyramid schemes alive.
The parasite Eve returns, as an NFT
In November 2022, Parasite Eve fans were excited at the prospect of the beloved JRPG horror series making a comeback. Square Enix registered trademarks implying their return. Unfortunately, however, the newly registered trademarks were for NFTs.
Also, as reported by Eurogamer, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda has hinted that 2023 could be the year of NFT for the giant Japanese company.
In a New Year’s letter, Matsuda stated that 2023 will be the year of “major development and transformation“with”several blockchain games based on original IPs in development“.
Square Enix and NFTs take Mickey!
So if you were hoping that Parasite Eve would be Square Enix’s only NFT victim, think again. This means franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts could be set for a big Blockchain and NFT push.
“Blockchain has been a subject of excitement and a source of unease, but with that in the rearview mirror, we hope blockchain gaming will move into a new stage of growth in 2023,Matsuda said.
The president went on to push his positive perspective on how Blockchain and NFTs will affect the video game industry.
“If this turns out to have been a step in a process leading to the creation of rules and a more transparent business environment, it will definitely have been for the best for the growth of blockchain entertainment.
“Keeping a steady eye on these environmental changes while considering from a higher perspective what Web 3.0.” He added: “Blockchain entertainment is actually about presenting a different view than if we focus on them solely in technological or speculative investment terms.
“As I said in last year’s New Year letter, if we consider traditional gaming to have become centralized, then blockchain gaming must operate based on a self-sustaining decentralized model. It’s that concept, that philosophy that I see is the key.“
Square Enix NFTs are here to stay, for now
So it seems from Square Enix at least that we’re going to see a lot of Blockchain and NFT technology infiltrating our beloved video games for the foreseeable future.
