‘South Park’ mocks Matt Damon’s Cringy Crypto ad

The last South Park the film on Paramount Plus, “The Streaming Wars”, plays like a long-running crypto roast, aimed at celebrities who have tricked themselves into hyping up cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

Crypto-mining and NFT extraction are incredibly energy-intensive, scraping out carbon emissions to enrich a handful of investors; South Park connects the dots, tells a story of an environmental crisis exacerbated by greedy scammers.

The film shows South Park suffering through a crippling drought, which makes the city’s inhabitants even more independent; therefore, an entrepreneur who owns a water park has a plan to replace the city’s water supply with urine – what could go wrong?

Dear celebrities will soon be recruited to run the propaganda campaign, and convince the urban population that urine is as good as clean water. Of course, it refers directly to the ridiculous crypto commercials that so many celebrities associated themselves with – Matt Damon’s infamous “Fortune Favors the Brave” Superbowl ad gives punchline, the mantra celebrities sing for themselves before taking a sip of urine to the camera.

Damon’s painfully self-serious ad, which sets in motion the act of buying crypto as an adrenaline-fueled adventure, has never been forgotten by the authors of South Parkwho has mocked and referred to the ad repeatedly.

But it’s not just Damon who South Park exposed to urine-infused humiliation – the film also spears Gwyneth Paltrow, Larry David, Naomi Osaka and Tom Brady, who have all expressed their support for crypto. Resse Witherspoon also shows up, as she has become famous for her bizarre tweets, which arm inclusive language to push crypto and NFTs on her fans.

While South Park had many crypto enthusiasts to choose from, they missed two important celebrities, Paris Hilton and Jimmy Fallon, who were trying to promote their Bored Ape NFTs to a confused audience, who were not quite sure whether to laugh or obey the applause sign.

But, South Park has already devoted quite a bit of time to mocking NFTs, portraying adult Butters as a delusional NFT promoter, considered so independent of the city that he is locked in, after convincing hundreds of innocent people to invest in a worthless asset, and fall into poverty.

These days, most celebrities who agreed to promote crypto and NFTs have retired, as the ensuing cryptocurrency really underscored how absurd the slogan “Fortune Favors the Brave” was.

Undoubtedly, all these thoughtless celebrities were paid with real dollars to promote cryptocurrency – maybe next time they will think twice about pushing a glorified pyramid scheme to the public.

Fortunately for us, South Park never forgotten; Matt Damon will never live it down.
