Skip crypto to create Solana Validator client software to improve performance
The Solana network and Jump Crypto have recently partnered to improve the stability of the Solana network.
The Solana network has this year in particular fallen victim to a number of network interruptions and overloads which have often led to the network being slowed down.
Jump Crypto, a Web3 infrastructure developer and investor, has decided to partner with efforts to improve decentralization and help raise the overall performance of the Solana network.
Jump Crypto will now create a validation client software for the blockchain platform.
This open source validation client is called Firedancer, and it will be based on the C++ programming language.
The software should provide an alternative to the Rust-based software that powers the current validation client powered by the Solana network.
Jump Crypto is a well-known player in the industry and is a subsidiary of Chicago-based Jump Trading. It has notable investments spread across the industry that also include Solana-related projects.
Jump Crypto calls the initiative “wildly ambitious”
President of Jump Crypto, Kanav Kariya, has called the validation client initiative “wildly ambitious”. The Chief Science Officer of Jump Trading, Kevin Bowers, is currently overseeing the development of the new validator client.
Kevin Bowers stated,
Through Jump’s decade of work solving some of the most complex network challenges across traditional financial markets, we’ve seen firsthand the impact improving a network’s speed and efficiency can have on an entire financial system. Now, given the relatively slow speeds and unreliability of blockchain networks, an incredible opportunity exists to transform the functionality and efficiency of these networks
For the uninitiated, validators play a very important role in proof-of-stake blockchains like Solana. It helps to attest the authenticity of the transaction linked to the blockchain.
In order for someone to act as a validator, they must own a necessary amount of Solana’s native currency referred to as SOL and validate in a way that benefits the network.
Various Solana validators such as Coinbase Cloud and Jump Crypto have also been known to offer staking services that allow smaller users to add SOL to the validator’s pool.
This way they also get an opportunity to earn shared rewards from the validators for providing the service.
Increase Solana Networks throughput
The goal of Firedancer is to improve and increase the Solana network’s throughput, which is the speed at which transactions are processed. This increase in Solana network throughput will positively impact efficiency and resilience in the next year with increases within the same time frame.
Solana spokesperson quoted,
In plain terms, Solana Labs has an engineering team solely focused on building what has been the only software in the world capable of running the Solana network. Now there will be a completely new initiative that will be able to coexist and run the Solana network as well.
In announcing the new validator client, Jump Crypto said that this project had a goal of accelerating the adoption of Solana by bringing in several technical improvements to the network.
It is only a matter of time before the above claims about the network’s efficiency are proven true, considering that Solana Lab’s frequent downtime can be reduced.
