Shanghai Electric’s Zero Carbon campaign comes to a successful conclusion

SHANGHAI, 24 October 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Electric‘s Go! 0 Carbon Walker public service campaign launched on World Walking Day has recently come to a successful conclusion.

The campaign encouraged the public to walk instead of drive, and by doing so help make a low-carbon future possible. Each 2,000 steps completed by a participant represented one of the firm’s zero carbon projects, lighting a candle on a designated sign. Once each of the lights was turned on, a lucky draw was held, with one participant receiving a free prize.

Another feature of the promotion was that the first 1,200 participants to complete 20,000 steps during the event will join Shanghai Electric in Yan’an, a city in China’s Shaanxi province. Here, they will witness the value of the online environmental initiative as they plant the exclusive Zero-Carbon Tree as a real opportunity to participate in low-carbon practices.

In response to the Chinese government’s mission to reach the carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 (referred to as 30-60 double carbon targets), Shanghai Electric has contributed to the resilience of its own business through a series of best practices and strong capabilities.

In the energy and manufacturing sectors, the two areas most responsible for the country’s energy consumption, Shanghai Electric has built new comprehensive power systems and a complete solution for futuristic zero-carbon industrial parks in a move to take the lead in helping the Chinese government achieve its decarbonization goals .

Shanghai Electric has already taken many steps to reduce its impact on the ecological environment as much as possible. The firm’s 44 square kilometer 700 MW thermal power and 250 MW solar plant i Dubai is currently the world’s largest solar heating project in terms of installed capacity, investment scale and storage of molten salt energy.

During the construction of the plant, Shanghai Electric made environmental protection a top priority, appointing a local professional animal welfare agency to conduct an on-site survey and organize the safe transfer of local fauna, including lizards, camels, antelopes and red foxes. The effort also included the relocation of over 200 precious trees that had been growing on the site for years. IN April 2021Shanghai Electric made a one-time donation of 700,000 yuan to support an economic development project i Shanghai’s Fengxian District, in addition to providing marketing support to Zhuangxing Town in Fengxian District to help sell products worth more than 1.3204 million yuan.

The firm also played a role in promoting cooperation between the country’s western and eastern regions, as well as revitalizing rural areas. In 2021, Shanghai Electric Power Generation Group, Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, three subsidiaries of Shanghai Electric, cooperated with three villages in Fuyuan County, Qujing, Yunnan Provincewhere each of the subsidiaries provided support to one of the villages.

As early as 2017, Shanghai Electric started building the first rural distributed water treatment demonstration project in Huapiao Village, Chenjia Town, Chongming District. Without emitting any odor or noise, the compact 10 square meter integrated sewage treatment plant specially designed for the district was able to easily treat around 30 tonnes of domestic sewage discharged daily by over 100 farming households living near the village.

In 2020, Shanghai Electric put together a package that included its proprietary integrated intelligent sewage treatment equipment, prefabricated facilities, sewage treatment technologies, river and lake dredging techniques, as well as digital intelligence and environmentally friendly information technology, to build a comprehensive water environment management solution in its rural sewage treatment PPP project in Huaiyuan County, Bengbu, Anhui Province.
