Renault’s second NFT Drop features exclusive R5 Turbo-inspired sneakers
BOULOGNE-BILLANCOURT, France — Following the success of its first genR5 NFT release, launched to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5, the major French automaker debuts its second collection.
The new RACING SHOE5 series will feature 960 pairs of limited edition sneakers, each linked to a “digital twin” NFT as a piece of 3D artwork recorded on the blockchain. This NFT will provide access to an exclusive meeting with the brand designers at Renault’s research and development centre, as well as a dedicated and customizable merchandise collection. The range’s 5 specially designed styles were each inspired by a different flagship R5 turbo model, with a sixth design paying homage to the R5 Turbo 3E which was created in collaboration with the R3NLT web3 community.
Renault has incorporated distinctive design elements from the iconic R5 Turbo series into the collector’s edition of trainers. Their rear slope evokes the car’s chassis, the interior is inspired by the upholstery, and even the laces resemble seat belts. Renault takes the technological innovation a step further by integrating an NFC chip into the tongue of the shoe. Scanning this chip will trigger the recovery of a second NFT; a certificate of authenticity in the form of a “digital passport”. This pass contains the shoe’s unique identity card, as well as details about composition, materials and production history.
The sneakers are made from environmentally responsible materials, including LWG (Leather Working Group) certified leather. Each pair, accompanied by associated NFTs, will be sold for €265. Early access to the drop will open to fans and members of the R3NLT web3 community starting May 15th. Those who pre-register will have access the next day, and public sales will start on May 17 on the nft.renault.com website.
