Renault Group launches ‘Industrial Metaverse’ to accelerate its digital transformation – NFTgators

Quick take:

  • The company claims its industrial metaverse will generate savings of €320 million, plus €260 million in inventory savings.
  • Industrial Metaverse was launched to monitor supply flows and supply chain data.
  • The industrial metaverse is controlled in real time by a control tower.

Renault Group is accelerating its digital transformation with the launch of what it claims to be the first industrial metaverse.

According to the French auto major, its industrial metaverse will generate savings of €320 million ($333.84 million), plus €260 million ($271.25 million) in inventory savings by 2025. It will also help reduce vehicle delivery times by 60% and contribute to a 50% reduction in the carbon footprint of car production and a 60% reduction in warranty costs as the Renault Group’s target.

Launched with the purpose of monitoring supply flows, the industrial metaverse is based on four dimensions: mass data collection, digital twins of processes, connecting the supply chain ecosystem and a set of advanced technologies.

To collect data from its industrial sites, Renault Group developed The Industrial Data Management Platform 4.0 (IDM4.0), which collects all the company’s industrial data. Stored in the Google Cloud platform, this data feeds the industrial metaverse, making it possible to correct or improve the production process in real time.

Currently, 100% of production lines are connected (8,500 pieces of equipment), 90% of supply flows are constantly monitored and 100% of supply chain data resides in Renault Group Metaverse, which the company says is a true replica of the car. the manufacturer’s physical industrial facilities controlled in real time.

Jose Vicente de los Mozos, EVP, Industry Group and Head of Country Iberia, said: “Every day, a billion pieces of data are collected at the Renault Group’s industrial facilities. Metaverse provides real-time oversight that increases the agility and adaptability of industrial operations as well as the quality of manufacturing and the supply chain. The Renault Group is becoming a pioneer in the sector.”

The company also created digital twins of its physical sites, with each factory having a copy in the digital world. The supply chain of each factory has its own digitized universe controlled in real time by a control tower.

The digital copies are then integrated into a larger ecosystem that is enriched with information such as supplier data, sales forecasts, quality control, weather and road traffic as well as machine learning that enables the development of predictive scenarios.

Finally, Renault Group also developed a platform for the convergence of technologies needed to drive the industrial metaverse such as cloud, 3D, big data and more.

“This industrial metaverse is unique and enables us to activate previously invisible efficiency and performance levers, for the benefit of people and the environment. The management of data at group level allows us to monitor, for example, the energy consumption of all our industrial and non-industrial facilities in detail , and above all to optimize them in real time when a plant is stopped, said Patrice Haettel , VP, Industrial Strategy and Engineering.
