Port Townsend Police Log | Bitcoin to the moon
The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 124 calls between Friday, May 10. February and Thursday 16 February. Below are selected reports.
At 11:25 on Monday 13 February a suspicious man was reported in the 900 block of Tyler Street digging in a yard with a shovel.
The man appeared to be in his 20s, and the reporting party told police the man was also there the night before.
Officers spoke with the man, who said he had permission to work there with the metal detector and shovel. Police followed up with the property owner, who said the man had the green light to be there.
At 16.30 Monday 13 February a landlord-tenant dispute in the 400 block of 26th Street was reported to police.
The landlord said to the tenant, “You will meet your maker,” and other threats were passed between both parties. The tenant was advised to move out, if possible.
At 07.40 Tuesday 14 February in the 1000 block of 10th Street, a woman was reported after setting up shop in the elevator of a local recovery center.
The woman’s personal belongings were scattered around the elevator, and officers spoke to her. She was told she had to take her things and leave. The officers spoke with a recovery center to assist with the situation.
At 10.50 on Tuesday 14 February a mental health patient at the hospital in the 800 block of Sheridan Street was reported to have left the facility on foot in his hospital gown.
Security footage showed him heading toward a nearby grocery store, and officers contacted the man in the store’s parking lot. The local fire brigade was also called to assist. The man was transported back to the hospital. Later in the day, around 6.30pm, the man left the hospital again and headed for the same shop. He was seen getting into a car and appeared to have left Port Townsend.
At 13.00 Tuesday 14 February an attempted fraud was reported by a store manager in the 1400 block of West Sims Way.
Someone had called the business posing as the store owner and asked an employee to empty the cash from the register, put it in an ATM and then buy Bitcoin.
An officer informed the store manager that it appeared to be a fraudulent attempt and the culprit may be someone familiar with the business.
At 10 o’clock on Thursday 16 February in the 1800 block of Water Street, someone broke into a resident’s home and took a cart from the storage area. The vehicle was a Gorilla brand utility vehicle, and the suspect is unknown.
