Polygon Rises to Become Second Largest Gaming Blockchain Among User Activity Boom – CryptoMode
In a notable development, Polygon has become the second largest gaming blockchain, surpassing Hive in user activity during March. This growth in Unique Active Wallets (UAWs) can be partially attributed to the growing popularity of the Hunters On-Chain RPG.
Explosive growth in unique active wallets for polygon
Ethereum’s layer-2 scaling solution, Polygon, witnessed a significant increase in user activity in March. According to DappRadar’s “Blockchain Games Report,” the number of UAWs engaging in gaming on Polygon reached 138,081 in March, marking a 53% increase from February.
This impressive figure places Polygon well ahead of the third and fourth ranked gaming blockchains, Hive and BNB Chain, which boast 84,000 and 80,000 UAWs respectively. The leading gaming blockchain, Wax, still holds a significant lead with 314,000 UAWs.
The report says: “Polygon, a blockchain previously known for DeFi DApps, overtook Hive this month to secure second place. This is a positive sign for Polygon as it now gains recognition as a gaming blockchain.”
Hunter’s On-Chain Game drives UAW increase on polygon
A major factor contributing to the increase in UAWs at Polygon is the Hunters On-Chain game by BoomLand. The game has seen an astounding 17,000% increase in UAWs in the last 30 days, according to DappRadar data.
Launched in January, Hunters On-Chain is a Web3 adaptation of BoomLand’s mobile game, Hunt Royale. This free-to-play role-playing game features NFT (nonfungible token) integration and a visual style reminiscent of Minecraft. The game reached an all-time high UAW figure of around 55,300 on March 9.
While the reasons behind the game’s surge in popularity last month remain unclear, the anticipation of an in-game NFT sale on March 31 could have played a role in attracting users.
Aggregate on-Chain Gaming Activity and DApp Industry Trends
The report also highlighted that overall gaming activity on the chain decreased by 3.33% in March, recording 741,567 Daily Unique Active Wallets (dUAW). Despite this decline, gaming still accounts for 45.6% of the DApp industry’s activity in Q1 2023.
Polygon has experienced increasing momentum in recent months, particularly in NFTs, gaming and the metaverse. Polygon Labs, the team behind the network, has secured a number of high-profile partnerships, including Warner Music, Starbucks, Adidas, Reddit and Adobe, to develop and host NFT projects.
Furthermore, the team successfully launched Polygon’s open source Ethereum Virtual Machine equivalent zero-knowledge rollout on March 27th. This development is expected to enable DApps to scale through transaction batching, improve performance and reduce gas fees for transactions on the network.
