Established by the forward-thinking team at Snark.Art, OG Art aims to redefine the NFT landscape. The platform is known for creating dynamic, generative and interactive parts. It provides a different approach to art in the digital sphere. At NFC Lisboa, OG Art’s managing and curatorial director, Nadia Taiga, spoke to NFT Evening. She shared some important insights about the platform’s latest developments and philosophy.
TL;DR
Following the inception of OG Studios in 2021, OG Art took a leap forward with the launch of the OG Platform in 2022. Dedicated exclusively to dynamic NFTs, the platform explores how artists can leverage blockchain technology. “When I talk about dynamic NFTs, I’m referring to works of art that are alive and evolving, pushing the boundaries of art and blockchain technology,” says Nadia Taiga.
“These pieces are transformed based on internal or external data or the actions of the collectors. What is fascinating is that each collector becomes an active contributor to the final work of art.”
OG Art goes beyond simply providing a platform for the creation and exchange of NFTs. It gives collectors the opportunity to go from being passive observers to active participants in the art world. This has led to the emergence of a community of collectors who contribute to the creative process, along with the artists.
Dynamic NFTs offer some advantages. In addition to facilitating the fusion of creative energies of collectors and creators, they also promote collaboration between interconnected projects or brands, thus fostering a thriving ecosystem. “Some liken it to a ‘Tinder for creative growth,’ where your chosen NFT pattern can reflect your deepest desires and shape the final work of art,” explains Taiga.
OG Art’s maiden project involving dynamic NFTs was launched in 2021, titled “Original Crystals” by Michael Joo and Danil Krivoruchko. The platform and artists collaborated to create ten crystal seeds. In order for the crystals to grow, the collectors had to sell them to another crypto wallet.
The data from the original collector’s wallet then contributed to the growth of the crystal each time it was purchased by a new collector.
Each piece had the potential to evolve up to seven generations. Some reached maximum generations, while others stopped at earlier stages. “The artwork symbolizes a sense of shared identity, as no less than seven people contributed to the creation of the final piece,” says Taiga.
OG Art’s latest venture is ‘Heterosis’ by Mat Collishaw and Danil Krivoruchko, unveiled in March. The project was based on both internal and external data, with the phase of the moon influencing the growth of flowers in the artwork. Collectors again played a central role as co-creators of the final artwork, this time by cultivating the flowers and unlocking unique traits through the use of DNA combinational logic.
Noting the trend of gamification in the art world, Taiga says, “It makes the experience more engaging. It’s in our human nature to play.”
Despite the prevailing bear market, Taiga remains optimistic. “It is an opportune time to develop significant projects because there is less noise,” she says. “Strong projects can attract collaborators who really appreciate art. They are not here for short term profit. They are here to be part of art history, and that is exactly what we are doing.”
