NFT platform Groovemint releases Todd Terry’s collection

The partnership follows the NFT service’s debut release with Nigerian artist WurlD who is signed to American-Nigerian label Immensum Music.

Groovemint was co-founded by music discovery service SyncFloor CEO Kirt Debique. Groovemint seeks to help artists and labels create and distribute music, and integrate it into web3 experiences, as well as an API for developers who want to connect to other marketplaces, wallets, metaverses and games. The NFT platform focuses on black artists, allowing them to put together a unique combination of digital, physical and experiential offerings such as exclusive releases, special merchandise, access to concerts, meet and greet events or brand collaborations.

Todd Terry’s project focuses on his Fuzz Box collection, which was first released as a promotional-only vinyl in 2000. His NFT package includes a digital collection of 190 self-composed samples with royalty-free commercial usage rights, as well as other exclusive extras such as a signed limited edition of the original Fuzz Box vinyl, a download of Fuzz Box – 2022 NFT mix and footage behind the scenes of the recording, and artwork.

“Todd Terry has been an active participant in the space and is excited about the NFT world,” said InHouse Records’ managing partner, Bill Klatt. “He is particularly attracted to the level of control that Groovemint gives artists and labels as they build their own launch platform for NFT releases.”

Born in Brooklyn in 1967, Todd Terry is credited with helping to define New York house music in the 1980s. His productions can be described as a diverse collection of samples that mix the sounds of classic disco, the more introspective Chicago sound pioneered earlier in the decade, and plenty of hip-hop attitude and piracy sampling.

For his next NFT release, Groovemint is expected to collaborate with multi-instrumentalist and producer KR3TURE and MalLabel, which will be made available for purchase between August 23rd and September 4th. The upcoming release will give buyers the exclusive opportunity to participate in MalLabel’s Shapeshifter Remix Contest, where participants will be given access to download Shapeshifter strains and six weeks to remix and submit their song to MalLabel. KR3TURE’S NFT package will also include a bonus download of MalLabel’s catalog of more than 300 royalty-free tracks.

“Artists like Todd Terry and KR3TURE are leaders in the music NFT space,” said Debique. “We are excited to continue their commitment to Web3 with their upcoming groovemint releases, building bridges across various NFT marketplaces for the artist, label and fan.”

Groovmint says its primary goal is to simplify the process of creating NFTs for non-crypto-savvy music fans, with a launch to create music NFTs via social login and credit card, as well as music playback delivered via a Groovemint player .
