MetaMask adds NFT support in latest update to its browser extension – BitcoinKE

MetaMask has added non-fungible token compatibility to its browser extension service, making it easier and safer to trade these unique assets.

In a Twitter post, MetaMask said that ERC-721 and 1155 tokens should appear in its latest extension version as long as automatic NFT detection is enabled. According to Metamask, v10.28 brings an NFT view into the browser extension, allowing users to send ERC-721 tokens.

The latest update to the MetaMask browser extension includes the following features in a quick summary:

  • Dedicated NFT tab that allows users to easily view and manage their NFTs in their wallet
  • Simplified sending of ERC-721 NFTs enabling users to transfer ERC-721 NFTs without relying on external platforms or smart contracts
  • NFT auto-detection if enabled will show all ERC-721 and ERC-1155 tokens in the wallet
  • Although not available yet, MetaMask plans to introduce the ability to send ERC-1155 tokens in the near future

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are unique digital assets stored on the Ethereum blockchain and can represent anything from digital art to virtual real estate. However, managing NFTs can be challenging, especially for those new to the technology.

The new NFT tab in MetaMask allows users to easily see all their NFTs in one place, making it easier to keep track of their collections. This feature can greatly benefit NFT users, with several other benefits, and is a significant development for both holders and traders.

Prior to this update, users had to rely on platforms like OpenSea or interact with smart contracts to transfer their NFTs, exposing them to potential risks. The new update eliminates these concerns and allows direct transfer of NFTs to a ledger or friends from the MetaMask browser extension.

This is a game-changing development for the NFT community.

In addition to providing additional benefits to NFT holders, the improved user experience offered by the new NFT tab helps MetaMask remain competitive against newer wallets and mobile alternatives such as Rainbow. The dedicated NFT tab and enhanced transfer capabilities not only make the wallet more attractive to new users, but also streamlines the process for existing users.

Users who do not have automatic updates enabled must manually update the MetaMask extension to access the new features. To do this, they can visit their browser’s extension settings and follow the instructions to update MetaMask to version 10.28.
