Make Blockchain development more accessible with the Lisk Grant program

The Lisk Foundation has helped many new JavaScript developers realize their potential and build applications that change technology forever. The Lisk Grant program was set up to allow programmers to build blockchain applications on the Lisk protocol using the Lisk Software Development Kit (SDK). This has already proven to be a huge success with several new projects joining the program with each new wave.

The Lisk Grant program awards a prize pool totaling $1.3 million to all projects with big ideas and a solid plan. The requirements are simple, while the benefits of participating in this initiative are broad. Aside from the financial support, developers also have access to a bustling community, and years of experience from Lisk’s technical team to guide project managers in their endeavours.

How to take part in the Lisk Grant programme

Initially, it is a prerequisite that the team is led by two core members, one of whom must be a JavaScript developer. If you don’t have a partner to work with, you can search the Lisk community to find one. As the project manager, you will be responsible for monitoring the development process and communicating with the Lisk team.

Here are the milestones that projects must go through:

  • Project setup: Login with Lisk, verification of team identities and website/social setup.
  • Minimum viable project: Development of your MVP, and a business review by the Lisk team.
  • Development: Pass a high-level review, launch a testnet, and keep the testnet live for one month.
  • Launch: Start the mainnet, register your app as a sidechain to the Lisk mainchain, maintain the sidechain for a minimum of one month.

With each milestone, teams will also be required to publish a blog post about progress made.

Successful participants in the Lisk Grant programme

Lisk’s network is expanding rapidly now, thanks in large part to the Lisk Grant Program. Some projects on the Lisk network have progressed very far in their development and are beginning to produce results. Here are some of the chains run by Lisk that really stand out.

Kalipo

One of the original members of the Lisk Grant program, Kalipo is pushing the envelope when it comes to DAOs and community decision making. Made of Peter Nobel’s and Xinrong DingKalipo aims to give users greater access to community resources to build consensus around their priorities. These come in a variety of forms:

  • Legal entities
  • Project working groups
  • Meetings and events
  • Clubs and associations
  • Online community

Since first joining in September 2021, the team has consistently achieved milestones and continues to build on their success. Peter Nobels is also building a name for the project, and was mentioned by Nasdaq earlier this year and frequently appeared in Lisk community conversations.

One night

Along with Kalipo, Enevti is another project from the first wave of the Lisk Grant programme. This project aims to combine NFT technology with social media. Enevti brings people closer to their favorite influencers and creates a more holistic experience in online communities. Influencers can gain traction and profits faster while giving more to their fans online.

This year, CEO and co-founder, Aldo Suhartono Putra, won APAC’s Insider Award for Most Innovative Social Media CEO 2022.

Topa’s city

Topas City is a metaverse and GameFi project that explores new frontiers of blockchain technology. It is one of the first VR/XR games to incorporate blockchain into it, with players venturing into the dynamic and sprawling world of Topas City. There they can interact with other players, try to get currency in the game and reach greater limits in the game.

This ambitious project is a good example of metaverse technology which is another category that can be developed with the Lisk Grant program.

Here are a few more examples of successful candidates:

  • Neat Box: Neat box is a chain storage solution. By mixing hardware and software with data hosting, users can both benefit from offering data storage options, or maintain their data in a secure chain setting.

  • Colecti: A digital marketplace for NFTs on the Lisk network.

  • RGB: A collective NFT project that runs over two weeks with different community members contributing to a blank canvas.
