Johnny Depp has donated nearly $ 800,000 to charity from the sale of NFTs.
The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor’s NFT community, Never Fear Truth, raised a huge amount of donations and has divided the money between the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, The Footprint Coalition and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
The company told RadarOnline.com: “We are pleased to confirm that nearly $ 800,000 in total donations.”
The Los Angeles Children’s Hospital was one of two charities, along with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), that Johnny’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, promised to donate her $ 7 million divorce settlement to when they agreed on the terms of their 2016 split.
She said at the time: “The donation will be shared equally between the ACLU, with a special focus on stopping violence against women, and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, where I have worked as a volunteer for the past 10 years.
“Money did not matter to me personally and never did, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, by doing so, hopefully help those who are less able to defend themselves.”
However, during the former couple’s recent bitter defamation lawsuit, the ‘Black Mass’ star’s lawyer ‘Aquaman’ actress admitted that she had not fulfilled her promise, insisting that she had not been able to pay due to ongoing litigation with her ex-husband.
In court, Terence Dougherty, CEO and Advocate General of the ACLU, said in a pre-recorded clarification – filmed in December 2021, that the 36-year-old actress was nominated as an ACLU ambassador following her promise to make the big donation, but noted that it was not fully shipped at the time of deposit.
The organization had received four payments, with $ 350,000 being paid directly by the ‘Danish Girl’ actress, $ 100,000 coming from Johnny, and two payments of $ 500,000 and $ 350,000 being submitted through donor advice.
Mr. $ 5 million would be paid out over a 10-year period, although it was never confirmed, and the organization has not received any money since.
He said: “We received no amount in 2019 and beyond.”
When asked what efforts they have made to get the rest of the money, he replied: “We contacted Ms Heard from 2019 for the next part of her gift, and we were told that she was having financial difficulties.”
