The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has launched a virtual reality classroom as part of its ultimate larger plan to create a fully immersive metaverse campus.
HKUST said in a statement that this is the first step into their larger plan to build ‘MetaHKUST’, which will be a learning space in the metaverse world. MetaHKUST will connect the university’s Hong Kong campus with the Guangzhou campus and allow students to take lessons without physical geographical boundaries.
“Many guests may be overseas and unable to attend [the opening]so we will host it in the metaverse,” said Pan Hui, a professor of computational media and art at the Guangzhou campus, the South China Morning Post reported.
In other news, Miami city, Florida, USA is set to unveil a unique collection of around 5,000 non-fungible tokens (NFT) designed by 56 local Miami artists and representing Miami City’s 56 square kilometer area. Users who purchase these NFTs will also gain access to a Mastercard program.
Mayor Francis X. Suarez said in a statement: “The City of Miami has been at the forefront of the Web 3.0 revolution, and we will continue to use these new technologies to support our existing businesses while attracting new ones, raising capital and providing experiences for our residents and those who visit this great city. At the same time, we can also use this new approach to support local artists and charities.”

The global crypto market cap was down 0.75 percent at $1.09 trillion at 8:50 a.m. Global crypto volume was down 5.88 percent to $71.86 billion, according to Coinmarketcap data.
Bitcoin (BTC), the world’s oldest cryptocurrency, was trading at $23,403.03, down 1.63 percent in the last 24 hours. Ethereum (ETH) fell 0.09 percent to $1,695.10.
Among other notable coins, Cardano (ADA) was down 1.51 percent to $0.5231, Algorand (ALGO) was trading with a loss of 0.01 percent to $0.3408, Solana (SOL) was trading with a loss of 1 .3 percent to $42.89, Polkadot (DOT) rose 7.61 percent to $8.87 and Binance Coin (BNB) was down 1.86 percent to $287.87.
The biggest gainer of the day was Filecoin (FIL), which was up 27.76 percent to $10.79. The biggest loser was Bitcoin Gold (BTG), which fell 11.96 percent to $29.56.

Dogecoin (DOGE) fell 0.76 percent to $0.06996. Its volume to market capitalization ratio is 0.0589. Rival Shiba Inu (SHIB) rose 1.22 percent to $0.00001229.
Dogelon Mars (ELON) was down 1.98 percent to trade at $0.0000003539, Floki Inu (FLOKI) was up 2.4 percent at $0.00001316, and Samoyed Coin (SAMO) was up 4.8 percent at $0.01293 .
In the DeFi segment, YFI (yearn.finance) was down 5.46 percent to $11,254.85. Terra Classic (LUNC) was traded with a gain of 0.96 percent at $0.00009896, Avalanche (AVAX) was down 1.95 percent to $23.97, Uniswap (UNI) was traded with a loss of 3.88 percent at $8.52, and Aave (AAVE) ) rose 3.27 percent to $99.67.
