Ahead of the Hong Kong 7s tournament, the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU) today, 28 October, announced the launch of its NFT marketplace. Powered by NuArca Labs, the digital collectibles platform aims to connect rugby fans to the games. Also, the platform will help the organization to give more to the fans, allowing them to own a piece of the action. In fact, fans attending the upcoming tournament can participate in a treasure hunt to unlock digital collectibles.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Hong Kong Rugby Union’s NFT Marketplace:
To celebrate the launch of the NFT Marketplace, the Hong Kong Rugby Union is releasing free digital collectibles featuring its flying red dragon mascot, Wai Bei. Interestingly, the mascot “disappeared” during the Covid lockdown, eventually making its way into the metaverse. Every fan who logs into the new platform until November 3rd will receive a free NFT with Wai Bei.
Furthermore, fans attending the Hong Kong 7s tournament can participate in a “Where’s Wai Bei?” treasure hunt. Essentially, they have to search for 5 QR codes hidden throughout the stadium. Each of the codes will unlock several free Wai Bei collectibles. Also, those who find all five will be entered to win a VIP tournament experience.
“These first free collectibles and the ‘Where’s Wai Bei?’ game are designed to playfully engage with our fans in new ways and introduce them to the exciting and innovative digital experiences we’re planning,” said Bryan Rennie, General Manager, Hong Kong Sevens . “Rugby fans are some of the most enthusiastic on the planet … and we aim to harness and reciprocate that energy in web3 community channels.”
NuArca Labs, a leading NFT innovator, operated the NFT marketplace from the Hong Kong Rugby Union. The white-label platform makes NFT transactions much easier. To explain, users can buy NFTs with a credit card – they don’t need to set up a digital wallet. This way, investors don’t have to worry about the technological rigors while enjoying the benefits of blockchain technology.
NuArca Labs is also the official NFT partner for Major League Rugby, Rugby League World Cup 2021, Hull FC and other sports IP holders.
First, the platform will release four types of digital collectibles for fans of the Sevens franchise. Of this, the Hong Kong Rugby Union will sell team card NFTs ahead of the tournament. Then, during the series, it will auction a game ball and jersey NFTs. More importantly, auction winners will be able to redeem NFTs for the jerseys and ball used during the tournament.
In addition, Hong Kong FinTech Week and Golf Day participants can receive unique commemorative free NFTs. Holders will also be eligible to win free tickets to the November games. They will also have a chance to win the Golden Ticket for exclusive VIP access to the stadium.
All told, the Hong Kong Rugby Union NFT Marketplace will feature some of the most iconic moments in HK7 history. Fans can also expect incredible art, photos and unique collectibles.
