global mining cloud hiring fell 9% in Q3 2022
The global mining industry experienced a 9% decline in new job postings related to the cloud in Q3 2022 compared to the previous quarter, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics. This compared to a decrease of 9% in the previous quarter and an increase of 30% compared to the third quarter of 2021.
In particular, software and web developers, programmers and testers accounted for a 32% share of the global mining industry’s cloud-related total new job postings in Q3 2022, down 14% from the previous quarter.

Software and web developers, programmers and testers, with a 32% share, emerged as the top cloud-related job roles in the mining industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings down 14% quarter-on-quarter. Database and network administrators and architects came in second with an 8% share in Q3 2022, with new job postings up 27% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent cloud roles include computer and information system managers with a 4% share in Q3 2022, data and information analysts with a 3% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in the mining industry accounted for 7% of employment activity
The top companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were Komatsu, WW Grainger, Caterpillar and Wartsila. Together, they accounted for a combined share of 7% of all cloud-related active jobs in the mining industry.
Komatsu posted 308 cloud-related new jobs in Q3 2022, WW Grainger 250 jobs, Caterpillar 207 jobs and Wartsila 164 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 44% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022
The largest share of cloud-related new job postings in the mining industry in Q3 2022 was in the United States at 44%, followed by India (14%) and Canada (12%). The share represented by the US was -2% lower than the 46% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
