Focus on Africa: Fintech and cryptocurrencies in Francophone Africa

Fintech, especially cryptocurrencies, is playing a strong role on the African continent. This is seen in regions such as French-speaking Francophone Africa.

Carine and economic development adviser Richie Santosdiaz Sit down and discuss more about cryptocurrencies in the Francophone and the wider African region, as well as how it enables financial inclusion to a continent where many are unserved or underserved.

Dikambi is an avid blockchain and digital economy enthusiast and accomplished fintech professional who began his career in investment banking in New York City. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in banking from Université Paris Descartes and a master’s degree in management science from Université Sorbonne Paris Cité. She also received a Certificate in Leadership Excellence from Harvard.

After a successful career and over a decade spent in the world’s financial epicenter, Dikambi decided to relocate to Cameroon to focus on industrialization initiatives and make an impact in the African technology landscape.

She is the co-founder of Inoni Techa technological hub that promotes innovation, entrepreneurial thinking and
provide key resources and training to develop a technology-aware and financially savvy population
across Francophone Africa.

Previously, Dikambi was vice president for regulatory solutions at Citigroup and director of risk
and information management group at American Express.

Francophone Africa:

The French language plays a strong role in large parts of Africa. It is the sole official language of 11 African countries and the second official language of a further 10 countries.

According to the same source, it is also the main or only language of instruction in schools in African countries such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
