Fintech startup SendSprint expands UK, offers money transfer services for Africans in the diaspora
SendSprint Technology Solutions, an innovative payment company, is launched today in the UK with a service aimed at the African diaspora, representing an estimated 1.7 million people across the UK1.
SendSprint is launched in partnership with Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payment technology company, which provides the infrastructure to enable fintech to process cross-border transactions.
The company’s products connect the African diaspora to their loved ones at home, and introduce their Sendsprint money transfer service and Sprint Connect to the market – a gift solution that connects the African diaspora to retailers across the continent.
At launch, fintech will offer three destination countries for shippers, including Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa. During the first 18 months, SendSprint targets 300,000 UK customers.
The launch in the UK represents the first step in SendSprint’s international plans as it looks set to expand to the US and Canada in the coming months.
Sendsprints Send Money product is a reliable and affordable solution that will solve a financial problem for the African diaspora by providing a flat tax experience of $ 5 (approx. £ 4.10) for money transfers as opposed to a sliding scale from other providers, favorable exchange rates with real-time transaction monitoring and 24/7 customer service.
Fintech’s unique gift product, Sprint Connect, is designed specifically for the African diaspora. The company’s technology-driven product range is made possible by aggregator partnerships with over 3,000 dealers in recipient countries.
Partner retailers include Shoprite, Game, Jumia, Filmhouse Cinema, St Nicholas Hospital and Healthplus pharmacy among others. The product enables customers to send gift cards to recipients in Africa, for daily purchases such as groceries, fashion and beauty products and healthcare services, reflecting the cultural nuance of how money transfers are used at home.
SendSprint’s product offering is made possible through a strategic partnership with one of Africa’s leading payment companies, Flutterwave, to facilitate cross-border transfers for start-ups.
Fintech was incorporated in April and the company has established the United Kingdom as its international headquarters with a presence in the United States and Nigeria. SendSprint has also applied for the necessary licensing through a regulated entity.
When CEO Damisi Busari spoke about SendSprint’s launch in the UK: “We understand the connection people have with their home countries and the importance of sending money and gifts home to support their loved ones.
Fintech is about connecting the African diaspora to their loved ones at home by enabling fast, easy and hassle-free international transfers, as well as an innovative gift experience.
This is a product of the African diaspora, of the African diaspora. All of us at SendSprint understand the many requirements that Africans living abroad lead. Our service recognizes and reflects this.
“The launch in the UK represents a significant step for fintech as we want to expand and connect people around the world to their homes in Africa. We have ambitious growth targets that will be supported by scaling up our team across both product and customer service.”
