As part of our new interview series, Matt Hyde, Director of Recruit 121 and FinTech Awards Wales, talks to professionals in Wales’ booming FinTech sector. This week Matt caught up with Lee Griffin CEO of Savings at Go. compare.
Tell us about your main focus at Go.Compare
Go.Compare has always been a service that helps consumers take control of their spending by not accepting the first offer they receive on bills such as renewing insurance, broadband deals or a mortgage offer. Now, more than ever, our focus is on making sure we provide the best service we can to help people take control of their finances and ultimately save money.
What impact do you feel the FinTech Awards Wales are making in the FinTech sector in Wales?
These awards have always been and continue to be a fantastic way to showcase the latest innovations in FinTech and some of the best talent in Wales.
It has been a difficult couple of years, but the industry is booming and it is very important that we celebrate the achievements that have been made in difficult times. And most importantly, showcase the skills we have here in Wales and ensure we continue to nurture this talent.
Why have you chosen to support the awards and especially the FinTech for Good Award?
This is the third year we have supported the FinTech Awards Wales and the ‘FinTech for Good’ award is one very close to our hearts. The opportunity to shine a spotlight on companies using innovation to truly make a difference in the world deserves to be celebrated.
What is Go.Compare doing today to support FinTech in the future?
Go.Compare has been a long-time supporter of FinTech and will continue to push innovation and develop solutions for consumers that make life easier.
We also invest in future GoCo’ers. We are proud of our apprenticeships and degree schemes, and we offer our employees the opportunity to gain further qualifications where possible.
There is always more that can be done, but supporting organizations like the FinTech Wales Awards help bring fintech minds together and drive collaboration, which we are very proud to be a part of.
Finally, what is the best advice you have received and what advice would you give?
I’ve been lucky enough to work with some pretty inspiring people, but I’m going to quote someone who has been a mentor to me all my life… “Do or don’t, there’s no try”. Pretty wise guy that Yoda.
