These “Shadows” feature four unique snapshots of globally acclaimed electronic musician, deadmau5. Celebrity portrait photographer Timothy White took these photos. The NFT collection “Shadows” provides an opportunity to delve into Zimmerman’s world. To clarify, deadmau5, or Zimmerman, is a composer, producer, record executive and web3 founder, in addition to his alter ego, deadmau5. The giant mouse head is known worldwide as the deadmau5 trademark. Timothy White’s photograph captures the duality of Zimmerman’s life. It also showcases his role in shaping the electronic music landscape, and explores his pioneering ventures into the digital domain.
This intimate NFT photo collection provides a unique insight into the artist’s persona, both on and off stage.
The Deadmau5 and Timothy White NFT collaboration
Timothy White and deadmau5 began their collaboration by discussing the narrative behind the photographs. The two artists aimed to showcase the blockchain’s origins by jointly conceptualizing and executing the photo shoot. Furthermore, they wanted to document the entire process.
Then, on June 9, 2021, the shooting took place in East Los Angeles. Zimmerman and Timothy were both wearing motion sensors. Why motion sensors? Well, this simulated the creation of a virtual environment around the shoot for Zimmerman, while Timothy took the stills. As a result, both artists were able to tell their story in their unique style.
The “Shadows” collection consists of four unique editions. Each features a different photograph of deadmau5 taken by Timothy White.
For starters, “Alter Ego” is a one-of-a-kind digital collectible and includes a co-signed museum-quality 30 x 40 photograph. Therefore, it is a significant addition to any collection. “Chairman” triggers an auction for a chance to own a co-signed 20 x 24 museum-quality photograph. “Me and My Shadow” is a digital-only collectible. This shows White’s artistic mastery in capturing the interplay between light and shadow in his subject. Finally, “dormau5” is the only edition in color. The inspiration comes from the Dormouse character in the classic novel Alice in Wonderland.
