Donald Trump Announces NFT: What Do Trump Digital Trading Cards Look Like?

Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social earlier this week to tease an upcoming announcement to his followers. As the first person to announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, it might have been expected that Trump would provide more details about his upcoming campaign, but that was not the case.

“I’m doing my first official Donald J. Trump NFT Collection right here and right now, he told followers, in a slightly stilted promotional video released online.

“They are called Trump digital trading cards. These cards contain some of the truly incredible works of art that concern my life. You can collect your Trump Digital cards just like a baseball card or other collectibles.”

In addition to the nun-fungible token, buyers will also enter “contests” to win a variety of Trump-related prizes. The website claims this could include a Zoom call with the former president, free drinks at Mar-a-Lago and a golf experience at one of his resorts.

The announcement was met with ridicule online just as many branded Trump’s latest venture a scam. Many pointed to previous instances where Trump’s campaign team has tried to squeeze in extra donations using dubious means.

How much does a Trump NFT cost?

Trump has released one “exclusive” collection of 45,000 NFTs on his new website, Trump Digital Trading Cards. They are minted on Polygon and can be purchased using traditional fiat currencies or with Ether (ETH) cryptocurrency.

They will initially sell for $99which Trump claimed represented good value.

“[They] is $99 … which doesn’t sound like a lot for what you get,” Trump said. “Buy one and you’ll join a very exclusive community.”

When you go to buy a Trump NFT on the official site, buyers are greeted with a pop-up promotion claiming to offer a guaranteed ticket to an upcoming gala dinner attended by the former president himself.

However, to secure this prize, you must purchase 45 NFTs, in a single order, costing a total of $4,455.

What do the Trump NFT trading cards look like?

The images released so far all focus on the former president and are framed in the style of a baseball card. But unlike most trading cards, these have America’s 45th president in a series of bizarre poses.

In one he is depicted riding an elephant; another sees him dressed as an astronaut in aviator sunglasses; while one shows him ripping open his suit and shooting lasers from his eyes. Something for everyone.

Trump, who has previously admitted he is “not a fan” of cryptocurrency, is clearly eager to promote his new digital goods online. In another post on Truth Social, he wrote:

“GET YOUR CARDS NOW! Only $99 each! Would make a great Christmas present. Don’t wait. They will disappear, I think, very quickly!”

How successful these hundred dollar digital trading cards actually prove to be remains to be seen.
