CP Foods’ blockchain integration ensures exceptional food safety

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) is successfully leveraging blockchain technology in its digital food tracking system for fresh pork and chicken products, thereby ensuring exceptional quality, hygienic food for consumers and customers worldwide.

This year, the company will integrate the technology with its shrimp operations.

“The quality and safety of food products is CP Foods’ top priority, as illustrated in the company’s digitization of its product traceability system in accordance with CODEX international food standards as well as ISO system standards,” said Oraparn Mungmisri, Assistant Vice President. for the Global Standard System Center for CP Foods. “The technology enables us to trace back the entire value chain of a product, including the raw material source, the manufacturing facility and the manufacturing processes.”

CP Foods started using the CPF Digital Traceability system in its value chain in Thailand in 2015. In addition, CP Foods partnered with AXONS, Thailand’s leading agri-tech company, to accelerate the traceability system with Blockchain Traceability technology, which is widely accepted in a range of industries including banking, purchasing and procurement, and supply chain.

In an effort to increase consumer and customer confidence in the availability, transparency and timeliness of all product information, the company has successfully implemented blockchain technology for fresh chicken and pork and will do so for fresh shrimp and cooked food this year. In the next step, the company intends to establish blockchain-based traceability for all products.

“Blockchain technology facilitates consumers’ quick access to product information by scanning a QR code on the packaging,” continued Oraparn. “In addition to the origin of the products, consumers are informed about certifications of quality and food safety standards and information related to sustainable products, including greenhouse gas emissions. This helps the company consistently deliver better product value.”

CP Foods has also implemented Blockchain Traceability throughout its supply chains, beginning with the procurement of raw materials for feed production and extending to farming, processing and shipping. This increases customers’ confidence in the quality and safety of the company’s raw resources and goods, none of which must come from deforested areas, thus helping to pave the way for global food security.
