CISE and COB offer Blockchain seminar series
Blockchain is a technology to increase the security of internet transactions. It’s under cryptocurrency, but it’s so much more.
JMU’s College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE) and College of Business (COB) are partnering to offer five Blockchain seminars held every other Wednesday through March. Seminars will be held 19.00 in King Hall 259.
The series, created and hosted by Marcus Griffin, a senior strategist for blockchain applications and cryptocurrency. It is designed for students, staff and faculty who want to learn more about blockchain and its applications.
January 25

Learn about non-fungible tokens, the metaverse, and how to create both. Francesca will also cover specific use case strategies and their potential in the future.

Constructing the blockchain
Speaker: Amber Orr
Amber is an engineer with experience from the industry and power sector. She is director of Engineering and Energy Services at Ion Engineering.
This session will focus on the systems and engineering that support blockchain, how the current system came to be, and what it will take to build blockchain in the future.

Building the block: Marketing the blockchain
Morissa Schwartz
Morissa will talk about efforts to expand the blockchain amid some of the challenges caused by the collapse of FTX. She will also discuss additional strategies for marketing.
Morissa is a former Chief Marketing Officer of a blockchain company, Forbes Top 30 Under 30, featured in the Wall Street Journal and on CNN.

Blockchain regulation and its future
Speaker: Ariel Gonzalez
Ariel is a JMU alum and listed as one of the top 100 lobbyists in the United States. He is the main lobbyist for Merkle Standard.
Ariel is an expert in understanding what is happening in DC regarding regulation. He will discuss the importance of stablecoins, which will be the foundation of the US Federal Reserve’s digital currency in the future.
