Cardano founder joins Vitalik Buterin to blow up Bitcoin developer to attack PoS mechanism

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano (ADA), expressed his dissatisfaction with his former colleague Vitalik Buterin with Bitcoin developer Jimmy Song for his statements about the Proof-of-Stakes (PoS) network.

Hoskinson took to Twitter on July 4 to label Songs’ post on the microblogging platform “stupid.” “The level of stupidity here is beyond explanation,” Hoskinson said.

Song took a sharp look at Proof-of-Stake systems such as Cardano, Ethereum and other networks that used a comparable algorithm. He said that these systems were not able to address the problem of the Byzantine general, and as a result they were not able to guarantee real decentralization.

“Proof-of-stake does not solve the Byzantine general problem. Therefore, it does not provide a decentralized consensus. “If you did not understand this tweet, then you are completely unqualified to make any allegations of evidence-of-effort,” Song said.

Vitalik Buterin calls the Bitcoin developer

It seems that Buterin, who is now working on the transition to Ethereum from a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus algorithm to a Proof-Stake mechanism, did not take the statement in a positive light.

The creator of Ethereum responded to the tweet in a more civil way by saying:

“Pro-tip: if there’s a long established tradition for people discussing A vs B based on deep arguments that touch on math, economics and moral philosophy, and you come up with saying ‘B is stupid because of a one-line technique that involves definitions “, you’re probably wrong.”

What is the problem of the Byzantine general?

The dilemma of the Byzantine generals is a significant obstacle to many different networks, especially those that rely on consensus. The problem arises because several actors are needed to reach an agreement for a system to work well, but often none of these actors trust each other.

However, Bitcoin was the first blockchain to provide a solution to the problem through the implementation of an immutable public record, which reduces the incentive for dishonest individuals to join the network.

Cardano founder responds critics

Meanwhile, Hoskinson is not the type of person to take criticism; rather, he is the type of person who constantly comes to defend his idea, even though it may seem rude to do so.

This is not the first time Hoskinson has spoken publicly against a post or remark that he sees as a direct or indirect attack on Cardano, nor is it the last.

The Cardano founder had previously mocked the creator and CEO of Terra, Do Kwon, for making derogatory comments about the ADA token.
