Europe has 1,466 ATMs, but has seen adoption levels plummet as there were 1,393 listed in January 2022. On a global scale, there are a total of 38,750 Bitcoin ATMs, with Canada having the second largest representation at 6.58% of the global BTC an ATM. There are a number of reasons for minimal adoption in other countries, including regulations and high fees.
Canada is actually home to what is believed to be the first Bitcoin ATM in the world, which was installed at a Waves cafe in Vancouver, BC on October 29, 2013. Recently, Bitcoin ATMs have increasingly become the target of fraudsters, with the authorities in the United States warning of fraudulent schemes that exploit cryptocurrency ATMs.
