Brexit drives UK fintech Paysend to Dublin
Paysenda UK fintech focused on card-to-card consumer payments, has announced the opening of a Dublin office to access the EU’s single market.
The company recently received an electronic money institution license from the Central Bank of Ireland.
Led by European CEO, Celine Singletonis the office in the process of recruiting a team of up to 30 employees.
The Dublin office will be one of four hubs operated by Paysend, along with Miami, Edinburgh and global headquarters London. Paysend operates in over 170 countries and says that the service is used by approx. 7 million customers.
CEO Ronald Millar stated: “This is an important strategic move for us. We have built an impressive global footprint since launching in 2017 and the opportunity we now have, with the support of IDA Ireland and the European EMI license we have been awarded, to expand further into Europe is exciting.
“As a former head of payments at Ulster Bank, Céline is well placed to take our ambitions forward as she builds the team and drives the growth of Paysend Europe going forward.”
Singleton added: “Dublin has become a great hub for technology companies, with a skilled workforce and a thriving business community. We have an excellent opportunity here to attract top talent to help drive our growth into more locations in Europe.”
Jennifer Carroll MacNeillChancellor of the Exchequer, said Paysend joins a thriving export-focused international financial services ecosystem in Ireland.
“The Government is committed to growing the financial sector across the country, through the Ireland for Finance strategy that I lead, where fintech and digital finance are a key theme,” the minister said.
“The expansion of Paysend is a valuable endorsement of the future growth potential for firms in Ireland based on good regulation and the availability of talented people.”
Paysend enables consumers and businesses to pay and send money online anywhere, anytime and in any currency.
Established in April 2017, the company supports cross-network operations globally across Mastercard, Visa, China UnionPay and local ACH and payment schemes, offering over 40 payment methods for online SMBs.
