BREAKING: Mastercard selects Polygon blockchain for music artist accelerator program – Report
- Mastercard is building its new Web3 program designed to help underground artists at Polygon.
- Polygon one step ahead of Solana, paying $3 million to two Solana NFT projects to move to its platform.
Leading payment network processor Mastercard is diving into the Web3 industry with a new innovative program aimed at empowering artists. To help execute its plan, and bring its vision to life, Mastercard is tapping the Polygon blockchain for support.
The program, called the Mastercard Artist Accelerator, is specifically designed to launch upcoming studies into the limelight. Built on the polygon blockchain, the program will use Web3 and Blockchain to help artists with branding.
According to a recent blog post on Polygon’s official website, the photon is set to kickstart in the spring of this year. It will usher in five artists, ranging from DJs, to musicians and music producers, and arm them with the tools and skill sets necessary to swing into the digital economy.
“The artists will get exclusive access to special events, music releases and more. A first-of-its-kind curriculum will teach artists how to build (and own) their brand through Web3 experiences such as imprinting NFTs, representing themselves in virtual worlds, and establishing an engaged community,” Polygon revealed in the blog post.
Fans of artists will also get access to join past form and learn with artists. Ryan Watts, CEO of Polygon Studios spoke about the impact that Web3 can have on the careers of artists.
“Web3 has the potential to empower a new breed of artist who can grow a fan base, make a living, and introduce new media for self-expression and connection on their own terms,” said Ryan Wyatt.
Polygon’s involvement with Mastercard certainly gives the blockchain a lot of good publicity. It further reinforces recent statements from Ryan Watts, who branded Polygon studios as a funnel for consumer brands looking to make a leap into the Web3 market.
“We’ve built this great funnel for partners to come through and make the onboarding to Polygon really seamless.” Watts added.
Polygon crashes Solana to welcome two new migrants to its chain
Polygon has been making rounds in the NFT community after two major NFT projects on Solana’s NFT marketplace branched into the Polygon network.
By overthrowing its rival blockchain Solana, Polygon will soon welcome both projects.
Digital art collections DeGods and Yoots, both built by DeLabs, revealed last December that both would move from Solana to Polygon in the first quarter of 2023.

The project’s head Rohun Vora, known on twitter as @frankdegods, revealed more details behind the decision, noting that Polygon wired it $3 million to migrate.

The payment is expected to fund the growth of the DeLabs team, while helping it launch larger projects and dominate the market.
