Bitcoin Bling: Drake Is the Latest Rapper to Flex the Iced-Out Ledger Wallet
by James · November 18, 2022
Famous rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham is a well-known Bitcoin fan, having previously won big on Bitcoin-based Super Bowl games and other crypto-centric bets. And he’s apparently storing his BTC holdings in style, if a recent Instagram share is any indication.
The Grammy Award-winning Canadian musician took to Instagram on Friday to post a photo of a diamond-encrusted Ledger hardware wallet on a marble countertop with the caption, “Waiting for you, Bitcoin.”
Drake is the latest notable rapper to spotlight a Ledger hardware wallet, with previous examples coming via partnerships and product placement deals with the company. This time, however, Ledger swears it’s not involved.
“We learned about Drake’s chilled Ledger the same way the rest of the world did, via his Instagram story today,” said Ledger’s director of communications Ariel Wengroff Decrypt by e-mail.
“Ledger does not have a partnership with Drake and did not give him that Ledger, but we are not surprised that Drake is given the power to self-custody and protect his assets,” she added. “Self-sovereignty above all else.”
Back in May, rapper Gunna wore one 20 carat diamond necklace at the Met Gala wearing a diamond Ledger pendant via a partnership with the company.
Rapper YG, meanwhile, featured a Ledger wallet in a music video for his song “Save money” with J. Cole earlier this year. In the video, YG shows off his Ledger in several pictures and holds it up to the camera. Ledger also collaborated with rapper Saweetie for her video “Tighter” featuring singer Doja Cat, with a chilled hardware wallet.
Now there is one rich flex. Decrypt reached out to Drake and his representatives for comment, but they did not immediately respond.
While it is unclear exactly how much Bitcoin Drake currently has, he is known to make large sports bets using the leading cryptocurrency. In addition to the Super Bowl wins, he has won over $1.4 million in BTC last summer in UFC betting on gambling site Stake from bets of nearly $2.3 million. The site, which Drake has partnered with, allows users to bet using cryptocurrency.
Drake often posts the results of his Bitcoin gambling on Instagram, and previously streamed his bets on Twitch under StakeDrake. However, concerns about the ethics of livestreamed gambling led to a platform-wide gambling ban on Twitch in September.
Casino.org reported in August that the rapper had already gambled over $1 billion in cryptocurrency on Stake over a two-month period — though it’s unclear how much of the money is actually his.
