Binance has launched its new AI-powered NFT generator, called Bicasso, which has reached 10,000 mints in just 2.5 hours. Still in its beta version, Bicasso turns user-submitted profile pictures into digital works of art.

On the occasion, Lorenzo Caponehead of marketing and business development for the Italian market at Binance, explained to The Cryptonomist:

“AI certainly represents the dominant trend that has characterized this early 2023. Bicasso is further proof that this company is not only able to ride the trends, but also knows how to do it in an intelligent way and in line with the services which is offered. The first night during the beta launch, I must have used it for at least a couple of hours!”

Binance NFT Bicasso: the new AI powered generator and its 10,000 mints in 2.5 hours

Binance NFT has launched Bicassothe new Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered Non-Fungible Token generator, manages to make 10,000 NFTs in just 2.5 hours.

Essentially, Bicasso is still in its beta version, and for this launch it transformed user-submitted profile pictures into digital works within seconds. All free.

Changpeng CZ Zhao, CEO of Binance, did not miss the opportunity to experiment with the new Bicasso with his own images. Soon after, CZ also notified his followers that the AI-powered generator had taken just 2 1/2 hours for 10,000 mints.

This first NFT collection of Bicasso is just part of the test of the beta versionand as far as it appears from the first data, at least 9,909 owners have created at least one NFT.

For this reason, digital artwork created by the AI generator are not made available for resale.

Binance NFT Bicasso and the test result of the beta version

Since this was a free trial, users just had fun participating and sharing their new Bicasso NFTs on social media.

Essentially, the system allowed participating users to upload their own image, such as a profile picture, which the AI then worked on, with or without creative suggestions from the users themselves. The result was the generation of a custom image in NFT format.

Admittedly, the test, which lasted only 2.5 hours for 10,000 mints, was not quite perfect. Binance itself shared on Twitter that during these hours, the team had to take action.

Not only that, for those who were unable to make it in time for the 10k NFT minting, they had opportunity to sign up on a waiting list to be able to participate in the full version of Bicasso NFT.

AI Generative art and NFTs

The NFT world seems to be expanding into the field of AI Generative art also, a type of art, mostly visual, that is based on cooperation between people and an autonomous system.

This autonomous system is a software, algorithm or AI model which can perform complex operations without the need for programmer intervention.

In this regard, Binance’s Bicasso joins AI Generative Art projects such as Midjourney and DALL-E.

In case of DALL-E, we are talking about a multimodal neural network based on OpenAI’s GPT-3 deep learning model.

OpenAI is the same house that also developed ChatGPT, the chatbot launched in November 2022 and optimized with “supervised” reinforcement learning techniques.

DALL-E is a system capable of generating images from a “prompt” text description, based on a data set of text-image pairs.

From AI powered NFTs to Bitcoin based NFTs

In addition to the field of AI Generative Art, the world of NFTs are also exploring the possibility of being minted on the Bitcoin Blockchain.

Actual, Yuga Labsthe company behind the famous Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection, recently announced TwelveFold, its first NFT project on Bitcoin.

It is a collection of just 300 NFTs (BAYC is 10,000 NFT) of Ordinal’s generative artwhich will be auctioned this week.

The Ordinals protocol was created by computer engineer Casey Rodarmorwhich has made it public as of 21 January.

This protocol has since launched NFTs on the Bitcoin mainnetwhich attracts the attention of the entire crypto community, between those for and those against.

What Ordinals do is activate the Bitcoin version of NFTswhich may include JPEG files, PDFs or video and audio formatsthrough what is called “inscriptions” therefore made on satoshis, tracked and transferred using ordinal theory.
