He is one of the most famous robots in the world and an icon in Japan. Astro Boy is now on his way to the blockchain. Premint for the ATOM Genesis NFT collection starts on Friday the 7th. April, commemorating Astro Boy’s 20th biological birthday. The creators of the collection, Animoca Brands Japan and Mad World, have already announced many benefits and tools.
ATOM Genesis NFT Collection is a series centered around the famous character of Astro Boy, known in Japan as “Mighty Atom.” This collection is the result of a partnership between the Akihabara Area Tourism organization, Animoca Brands Japan and Mad World. It consists of 150 unique NFTs created by 40 Japanese artists from the Akiba Eden community. Also, they are all licensed by Tezuka as derivatives of Astro Boy.
Access to the pre-mint phase opens on Friday. Thanks to their ATOM Genesis NFTs, holders will gain access to various tools over the next three months, such as immersive experiences and generative art applications.
All NFTs in the collection will be certified by the official marketplace of the Association of Japanese Animations, known as “Open Post”. The platform will issue on-chain certifications for each token from the ATOM Genesis collection.
Astro Boy is an android boy with human emotions and the protagonist of a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka. He first appeared in an anime that aired from 1952 to 1968. In history, the robot’s birth date is April 7, 2003.
In the story, Astro Boy is created by Umataro Tenma after the recent death of his son Tobio. A robot circus run by Hamegg eventually buys Astro, but Professor Ochanomizu rescues him from servitude. Finally, the scientist creates a robot family for Astro. Naturally, the pair embark on many adventures together.
The aesthetics of the manga series have inspired generations of manga writers. In fact, Osamu Tezuka’s style now defines the “anime” style. For example, the author was one of the first to adorn his characters with big eyes. Also, he popularized the Disney-influenced “comic book style” in Japan.
While NFTs are gaining popularity in Japan, the ATOM Genesis Collection is sure to attract many collectors. More than 70 years after his first appearance in a manga, Astro Boy is far from an outdated robot.
