The UAE is poised to use technology to meet the challenges of medical education following the launch on Tuesday of nascent edtech venture Healthvarsity that is set to revolutionize this sector.

Headquartered and registered in Dublin, Ireland, Healthvarsity is the brainchild of Dr Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Healthvarsity and Thumbay Group.

Users will be awarded certificates on the blockchain to maintain the security and authenticity of the completed courses.

Using AI and blockchain technology, Healthvarsity is poised to be the leading learning platform in the region offering quality online medical education.

Vignesh S. Unadkat, COO, Thumbay Media says, “So Healthvarsity has a long list of partners from around the world. We have partners from Australia, UK, we have partners from India and many other countries. We enable these partners to offer courses that are already accredited and certified and enable them in our platform. Additionally, what we’ve done is we’ve enabled the AI and the blockchain piece of this into the platform.”

To provide a better learning experience and improve learning outcomes, the platform will include AI for student analytics, course analytics and engagement analytics.

If a course requires a face-to-face interaction that will be met with the help of partners that include Gulf Medical University (GMU), but the online component will be delivered through Healthvarsity.

The team behind the Healthvarsity platform includes technology specialists, doctors and health personnel from various hospitals who have analyzed the problems in the health sector and developed practical solutions. The platform will also integrate AR/VR and metaverse technologies to enhance the learning experience.

“So, what happens is that when an instructor creates a course, he can choose an option “do you want to deliver the certificate on the blockchain?” So, the instructor will choose this and the student when he/she completes the certificate, he/she will get this certificate as a blockchain, as an NFT in the wallet. Another thing is that when a learner registers for this platform, we have enabled AI in this in the sense … we ask him/her a lot of questions and these the questions will allow us to provide him/her (shown to the user depending on his/her) profession in the healthcare sector) with the necessary courses, adds Unadkat.

Therefore, individuals such as doctors, nurses, healthcare professionals and students who are interested in pursuing health professional education have the opportunity to become part of the frontline heroes.

At the same time, it will give students the opportunity to choose on-demand courses and micro credentials to improve their careers.

Dr. Mohamed M. Al-Eraky, CEO, Healtvarsity opines, “So, it’s not a long-term commitment like most of the postgraduate programs, like masters or so on. It’s like a short commitment from the students so that they can learn what they like, what they need, according to their career. It has a wide range of target groups, from students, we want professionals and those who are even employees of universities and hospitals. So everyone who works in healthcare and who wants to learn something more about healthcare in different fields, Healthvarsity is a platform to offer this.”

Platform provides students with a wide range of over 200 courses

The platform offers learners a wide range of more than 200 courses, including specialized programs in areas such as autism, mental health, Ayurveda, homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and others. These courses are offered by leading organizations from around the world, ensuring learners have access to high-quality content and expert instructors.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder of Healthvarsity and Thumbay Group said, “Healthvarsity embodies the highly engaged, focused, interactive and unique learning that has been a hallmark of medical education programs for decades. The interconnected world we live in has experienced unprecedented growth in recent times, and preparing healthcare professionals to succeed in this challenging environment requires a flexible and truly global approach to education.”

He adds, “Healthvarsity will thus provide a powerful channel to communicate ideas to and engage with new and wider audiences, nurture lifelong journeys of inquiry and discovery and achieve better career outcomes using the latest technology.”

The platform is designed to offer assistance to students through mentor-led sections, while also giving hospitals and institutes access to a training portal for staff to improve their performance.

The courses will be divided into three levels, namely basic, intermediate and advanced, so that users can learn remotely at their own pace with the help of advanced learning technology.

Dr Tony Degazon, Regional Manager Middle East, North Africa and Europe from City and Guilds believes, “We support by providing quality assurance and accreditation on specific programs to help people develop lifelong learning skills in different types of areas…quite specialist areas such as we focus on. We are an accreditation and awarding body. We are like an international accreditation and recognition body so that after taking the program and getting certified, people can go to another place or travel to another country or migrate. It is like a passport to work.”
