A Week in My Life: Amy Kilner, Owner and NFT Designer, Skyhi Creative

Amy Kilner is an NFT designer and artist.

She set up a new design house called Skyhi Creative in Sheffield last year, working across graphic design, motion design, NFT art and 3D design.

She has already secured work from musician Fatboy Slim and former Social Chain co-founder and “Dragon” Steven Bartlett, and has previously worked with NYFW, Warner Music and Boohoo.

She told how the last week of her life went.

Monday

I go into my Sheffield based studio, sort out all the boring admin bits so I can concentrate on being creative for the rest of the week. I can’t do my best juggling email and admin at the same time, maybe it’s a designer thing. I’m currently on a retainer with Medallion FM based in NYC so with the time difference it’s always interesting to get on with working with their worldwide music clients! And, I also make sure that my dog bobo, who comes with me to work, has enough treats for the day.

Tuesday

Now for the interesting part, this week first I’m creating a couple of social campaigns for US music artists that will be posted on their profiles with 500,000+ followers, then there’s a sparkly 3D NFT also on top sitting next to the project. This promotes a new way for artists to connect with their fans, with private access to the community they can be the first to hear about news and releases from their most played songs! All this involves a combination of using Cinema4D and the full Adobe suite … And some artificial problem solving on top.

Wednesday

This Wednesday I’m starting a flexible six week project to create a campaign for a Sheffield based jewelery company called Jessica Flinn, I can’t say too much but I love their approach to stand out from the competition with their creative campaigns. I work at my best with clients who think outside the box and want to explore completely new ways of combining reality with the digital space. As this is a longer project I will share this with other things, I find it helps me work better if I have lots of different things going on.

Thursday

Thursday starts with a personal meeting at Global Brands (home of the drinks brands VK, Hooch and Corky’s). They’re an old employer of mine so it’s a bit of a homely feeling to do some 3D work for them, it’s also nice to have a chat away from zoom for once. Another ace project is for visual music at SXSW, a festival celebrating new technology, film, music and education based in Texas but attracting a global audience. Again, I can’t say too much here, but it really hits a new level to enhance the event experience! It’s something I think we’ll see a lot more of in the future as technology increases.

Friday

NFTs, NFTs, NFTs. If all is well with client work, I invest time connecting to the web3 world on twitter/discord and creating my own NFT collection which I launch in April on KnownOrigin (a rare digital art platform). Perfect timing before I head to New York for NFT NY! My first project is based on mental health, so it’s super important to me that I get it done, even if it goes into the weekend, as it’s also a personal challenge and outlet.
