A visual storyteller test with NFT
It’s NFT time in Kochi’s ever-evolving art world. After two back-to-back NFT group shows, a young visual artist hosts Kerala’s first physical NFT solo exhibition in Naseef Gafoor, who hails from Ponnani in Malappuram district displays his four major art series in the show titled ‘Each ray is an escape . Just beep.
The show takes place in the Durbar Hall from 20-24. July.
Gafoor, 32, identifies himself as a storyteller and it is his never-relenting appetite for sharing stories that led him to explore and focus his passion on NFT.
By profession, Naseef is a freelance photographer and director who mainly works for various advertising agencies. He mainly specializes in architecture and product photography and directs brand films, short content videos, stop-motions, cinema etc.
Juggling busy schedules of shooting and projects doesn’t stop him from chasing his true passion. He constantly took the time to play with new notions and ideas, using still images to now augmented reality. His entire artistic journey was driven by a pure desire to tell stories that are different and unique.
Naseef’s work has already been exhibited in Utopian Dystopia – the art, design and technology festival held in Kochi. Two of the series from the collection ‘Every beam is a flight. Just peep’ titled ‘Shades of You, World of Yin & Yang’ are photographs consisting of eight photographs each. The third series called ‘The Parallel World’ shows videos on four screens and the last series ‘Portrait of a Canvas’ uses the latest augmented reality technology.
Naseef is a keen observer and when it comes to photography, his eye for detail and description of things in minimalist settings is evident in his works, whether professional or personal. Advances in digital media made it easier for him to explore more ways of telling stories. Only one year has passed since he discovered NFT’s greater storytelling potential and his first NFT release was in July 2021. It has taken him only a few months to sell six of his works.
His transition to new age platforms and NFT largely reflected his idea of ownership and accessibility of artwork. “Creating stories through advertising is a completely different concept. As a concept-based mixed media artist, I found this platform very creative and engaging, you get to learn from worldwide artists all around, build a community that shares new ideas and expresses value for the art you’ve created, and of course your art travels around the universe, finds a good market, and the ownership is legitimate here.” says Naseef about the benefits of the art of crypto.
