‘South Park’ hits Matt Damon’s crypto ad in pee drink parody

South Park’s new episode “The Streaming Wars Part 2” points to a handful of celebrities who have recently supported crypto, including Hollywood legends Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon.

The episode spends the most time on Matt Damon, and refers to his widely panned ad for Crypto.comwhere he tells viewers that “wealth favors the brave” as he compares crypto investors to Arctic explorers, the Wright brothers and astronauts.

The episode refers to Damon’s ad image for shots, except that instead of the star approaching the camera in a room surrounded by holograms, he goes through dry land commercials, um, recycled water.

“We live in a severe drought,” Damon said. “It simply came to our notice then. We need to find alternative sources of water. Hi, my name is Matt Damon. You’ve heard me talk about the wonders of cryptocurrency, and now there’s a company that can give us the new source: Pipi Water!

The recording cuts to Damon as he tries to water his lawn in urine, shower in it, eat pasta cooked in it and enjoy a delicious cold pint with his Whopper burger.

FTX-supporting celebrities receive similar treatment in the episode. Tennis star Naomi Osaka must eat on pee salad green while Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David enjoys his “favorite drink” directly from a nearby source outside the screen.

Celebrity NFT investors like Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon is also not spared.

Witherspoon’s commercial is easily the ugliest. It begins with her saying to the camera, “I’m Reese Witherspoon. I think crypto is a good idea, but there is one investment that is even smarter. That’s why when my family enjoys festive festivals, we do it in a hurry! ”

The camera pans out to reveal two men emptying their blisters into a tub filled to the brim with luminous liquid and liquid apples. Reese bends down and starts bobbing apples.

South Park’s previous crypto references

South Park has been surprisingly slow in filming with crypto.

The first official reference came at the end of last year, just like Bitcoin was cooling down from the bull run in 2021.

In the episode “Post COVID“Stan Marsh goes to a motel counter about forty years into the future and is asked to pay with Bitcoin by the clerk, who says:” It’s the future – we have all decided that centralized banking is rigged, so we rely more on aircraft. Ponzi scheme at night. »

At the motel’s front desk is a sign saying ‘Bitcoin only.’

In the episode “Pajamas day“Which premiered earlier this year, Matt Damon’s Crypto.com commercials are repeatedly mocked.

At one point, Cartman exhorts his elementary school and asks them “what does Matt Damon say in the Bitcoin commercial? Fortune favors the brave!”

His classmate Clyde replies, “My dad said he listened to Matt Damon and lost all his money.”

It seems that crypto-penny has become an ongoing gag for showrunners Trey Parker and Matt Stone. With prices where they are now, however, there are unlikely crypto enthusiasts
