management hiring in global mining industry fell 1% in Q3 2022

The global mining industry experienced a 1% decline in new management-related job postings in Q3 2022 compared to the previous quarter, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics. This compared to a decrease of 1% in the previous quarter and an increase of 23% compared to Q3 2021.

Notably, automotive technician and repair jobs accounted for a 4% share of the global mining industry’s management-related total new job postings in Q3 2022, down 3% from the previous quarter.

Automotive technicians and repairers, with a 4% share, emerged as the top management-related job roles within the mining industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings falling 3% quarter-on-quarter. Accountants and auditors came in second with a 3% share in Q3 2022, with new job postings up 75% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent management roles include first-line managers for office and administrative support workers with a share of 3% in Q3 2022, occupational health and safety specialists and technicians with a share of 3% of new job postings.

The top five companies in the mining industry accounted for 2% of the hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were Komatsu, Eaton Corporation, Nexans and BHP. Together they made up a combined share of 2% of all management-related active jobs in the mining industry.

Komatsu posted 256 management-related new jobs in Q3 2022, Eaton Corporation 229 jobs, Nexans 183 jobs and BHP 165 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 37% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022

The largest share of management-related new job postings in the mining industry in Q3 2022 was in the United States at 37%, followed by Australia (16%) and Canada (10%). The share represented by the US was 0% lower than the 38% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
