Elections have historically often been called into question by their accuracy and transparency, and now a blockchain-based platform has created one of the most secure and reliable platforms for elections to be conducted digitally. Electis, a voting platform that has been used by over 20,000 voters since its launch, has aligned itself with one of Tezos’ most “green” and environmentally friendly blockchain suppliers.

It is perhaps for this reason that Electis has been most popular among government agencies and non-profit organizations that focus on sustainability, climate change and the carbon footprint.

Organizations that use Electis for democratic voting

Electis has grown in popularity since its inception and is now used regularly to conduct fair, open-source elections among a wide network of parties. The latter includes the official constituency of children and young people in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This non-profit organization, part of the UN, consists of a global network of both children and youth activists as well as voluntary organizations for youth, who work to develop guidelines for climate change. Their voices see the future path of this organization take shape as they contribute their voices to UNFCCC policy.

Another UN organization that has chosen the Electis platform for democratic voting is SDG7 youth constituency, a means for young people to have their voices heard in the energy sector, specifically on renewable energy sources.

According to a member of the global support team at SDG7 Youth constituency “Electis is our reliable partner for this year’s election campaign – and hopefully for all future elections”.

The constituency for women and gender is one of nine official observers of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which holds member states responsible for keeping warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius, while respecting human rights and women’s and gender issues, has also used Electis.

Electis bases its app on secure and transparent e-voting, which puts confidentiality and verifiability at the heart of the product. It does this through the use of blockchain technology, which due to its architecture is tamper-proof from the outside. This justifies both the process and the result of voting, and because of its digital nature, voters are allowed to vote no matter where they are in the world.

Electis chose Tezo’s blockchain to build its application due to its environmentally friendly nature, as well as the speed and security of transactions.
